Top Ten Books We Enjoyed That Have Under 200 Ratings On Goodreads

Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created by The Broke and the Bookish in which you make a list of ten to do with a certain topic. This week’s topic is “Top Ten Books We Enjoyed That Have Under 2000 Ratings On Goodreads (we’ve done underrated books a bunch of times in the past 6 years but thanks to Lenore at Celebrity Readers for suggesting this topic as a new way to talk about underrated books especially when underrated is subjective. An easy way to find this — go to Goodreads, your read list, at the top of your read list where it says settings you can add a column for # of ratings, then you can sort by that. If you aren’t a Goodreads user you can look up books you think are underrated and see what their # of reviews is on Goodreads? Or if that’s too hard you can spin it some other way!”

DID YOU SEE THAT??? I recommended a topic and it was chosen!!! I was inspired to suggest this topic b/c a friend of mine was looking for underrated books and asked me if I had any that had under 100 reviews on Amazon. So I thought this could be a great way to get actual underrated books from my fellow bloggers! This topic is so easy for me, b/c I have read a ton of hidden gems, but I knew that not all bloggers would find it easy, so I just suggested under X reviews on Amazon and figured bloggers could adjust as it worked for them. I’m fine with them changing it to Goodreads though, as their handy tip to add a column and sort by that worked perfectly for me! And since Curly Carla and I are Indie hipsters, we adjusted it to under 200 reviews for ourselves, to try to give you guys great suggestions for books that could really use some more love.

Dysfunctional: The 1st Trilogy of Matilda Schmidt, Paranormal Psychologist by Cynthia St. Aubin. This book only has 32 reviews on GR! And I am shocked!
The Kiss by Michelle Bolanger only has 20 reviews, What!
Fractured Karma by Nancy Straight only has 20 reviews! I don’t know what is going on with the world anymore. My review.
There Are No Vampires In This Book by Megan Bailey only has 24 reviews. My review.
Trail of the River, Haiti by Chip Davis has 38 reviews.

Lenoreo’s Top Ten Eleven :

When picking books, I tried to avoid picking the later books in a series (b/c those inevitably have fewer reviews), unless a whole series needed more love. I also tried to avoid books released in the last few months since I’m hoping they will be getting more reviews as time goes on. Hopefully some of these will appeal to you, b/c it always breaks my heart when a book I love just isn’t getting the attention it deserves.

For the Love of Music series by Mia Josephs: Chasing the Music (21 ratings on Goodreads, 3 reviews on Amazon — full 5 stars from me), Blurring the Lines (148 ratings on Goodreads, 56 reviews on Amazon — full 5 stars from me), and Finding the Dream (12 ratings on Goodreads, 3 reviews on Amazon — full 5 stars from me). I actually did beta read this series, but that doesn’t always mean a hit for me (though the odds seem to be in my favour, b/c I tend to beta read for authors I love). But I just don’t understand why this series is not getting more love and attention. It’s unique, and occasionally atypical. It has a lot of heart and emotion. The books can all be read as standalones and in any order (though the above order is the chronological order, technically Blurring the Lines was published first). And speaking strictly about the 3rd book, Finding the Dream, it has one of my favourite couples in it, and one of my rare book girl crushes in Sierra. I need someone else to read and love these so I can fangirl about them with someone.
Fall Line by Tudor Robins (15 ratings on Goodreads, 9 reviews on Amazon — full 4 stars from me). Fantastic YA coming of age from an authentic male POV.
Over the Ocean by Georgia St. Mane (52 ratings on Goodreads, 14 reviews on Amazon — full 5 stars from me). Super cute NA novella, with a fantastic good guy hero that’s a little shy and awkward. Seriously, people need to discover this one.
Ride the Wind by Starla Huchton (66 ratings on Goodreads, 6 reviews on Amazon — 4.5 stars from me). I managed to score an ARC of this book and adored the voice even though it’s a little different from what I normally read. I have to go back and read the first 2 flipped fairy tales in this series, but I have no doubt I will love them as well. I mean, gender flipping fairy tales? Yes please! My review.
Secrets Collection by Kat Nichols: Family Secrets (77 ratings on Goodreads, 39 reviews on Amazon — full 4 stars from me), Deadly Secrets (13 ratings on Goodreads, 11 reviews on Amazon — full 4 stars from me), and Holiday Secrets (2 ratings on Goodreads, 3 reviews on Amazon — 4.5 stars from me). This is a fantastic YA paranormal series featuring multiple paranormal species, from the perspective of a young woman who learns she is a witch!
Bright Beyond serial novella series by Theresa Kay: Dark Expanse prequel novella (92 ratings on Goodreads, 27 reviews on Amazon — full 5 stars from me), Bright Beyond Episode 1 (49 ratings on Goodreads, 13 reviews on Amazon — 4.5 stars from me), and Bright Beyond Episode 2 (38 ratings on Goodreads, 13 reviews on Amazon — 4.5 stars from me). This is a fantastic sci-fi novella serial series that is not yet complete. But you can always get the prequel novella, which is free, and find out if you fall in love with Eva the spitfire as much as I did. Then you can wait with bated breath for more along with me. 😉
Spark of Light by Alex Tuttle (89 ratings on Goodreads, 33 reviews on Amazon — full 5 stars from me). This was another book I beta read that honest to goodness blew me away. It had everything I love in a book, and I just want the world to read it and embrace it. Fantastic characters, great chemistry, and amazing world-building. A great, unique, paranormal/dystopian read.
Road to Somewhere by Kelley Lynn and Jenny S. Morris (95 ratings on Goodreads, 30 reviews on Amazon — 4.5 stars from me). Amazing coming of age tale of two sisters on a road trip. Totally surpassed my expectations, I just fell in love.
Turtle Bay by Tiffany King (116 ratings on Goodreads, 27 reviews on Amazon — full 4 stars from me). I love Tiffany King YA contemporaries, and this one was no exception. I only just recently read this one, but it was the perfect beach read. My review.
The Sight Seer by Melissa Giorgio (132 ratings on Goodreads, 28 reviews on Amazon — 4.5 stars from me). It’s been a while since I read this one, and it’s actually a series that I really need to get back to, b/c I enjoyed the first one so much. Great characters, snarky heroine, intriguing paranormal world. Yup, definitely need to reread and move on to the next ones.
Don’t Fall by Rachel Schieffelbein (140 ratings on Goodreads, 30 reviews on Amazon — 4.5 stars from me). Who doesn’t love a fairy tale retelling? This one is a YA contemp version of Rapunzel, and I was particularly impressed with the development of the mother character…really loved what the author did with that.

So we missed last week’s TTT b/c we’ve been pretty swamped around here, and I did a terrible job of catching up on other folks TTTs from the week before. But since this is my suggested topic, you know I want to see your lists!!
