Blurb:

Life on the run is about to end with a sniper’s bullet or an eternal pledge of fealty. Neither suits a seasoned lion shifter.

Shifter Chisholm Barduc has kept his family safe despite the mob’s target on their back. Free from any alpha’s control as well. But his luck is running out when his teenage daughter falls victim from a local crime. And if his instincts are correct, the beautiful police officer protecting his daughter’s secret is the mate Chisholm never believed he’d find. Only she’s not buying her role in mated destiny.

Dani Leggett gets the shock of her life witnessing a teenager shifter’s first change. And while Dani has supernatural secrets in her closet, she not ready to settle down. But one sexy lion shifter and his brood do their best to turn her life upside down and get under her skin. Now she must decide between remaining true to her professional code of conduct or sacrificing everything for those she loves.

My Review:

Favorite Quotes:

His mate: cordite, steel, and ink, a complex mixture of the cop and scholar. Every facet of her personality appealed to him. Rear view, front view, strength, tenderness—and he could spend days wrapping himself in her hair, silvery-white strands of silk that would tease his skin.

His kids didn’t cleanse away the nightmares, but they absorbed his thoughts and built hopes as caring for and nurturing his children claimed his life. The past receded with their active lives, but what you cherished enough to live for had the potential to destroy you with its loss.

I enjoyed this one. It has tones of a romantic suspense with a shifter thrown in.  I don’t remember the last time I read one like this.  And the shifter storyline had more diverse animals than just wolves or bears.  I really liked that.

Chisholm was a strong silent type, I do love me a deep thinker.  He was a very patient and caring shifter.  Not your average alpha possesive a-hole.  He had a family and you could see how much he cared for them.  He was a bit closed off because of  his past but not so much so that I didn’t get a good feel for his character. He didn’t push too hard with his desire for Dani.  And I liked how he put his children before his own happiness, especially when he met Dani and recognized her as his mate.

Dani was a straight up hardass.  She had a few traits that made her unique in the human world but left her sorely unprepared when it came to the shifter world.  I liked her pride and her ability to not let her emotions run her life.  She had a level head and was wary of jumping in feet first.  A planner after my own heart.  And even though she was human, she had an uncanny ability to understand where the shifters were coming from and their need for secrecy.

I will be reading more in this series, the side characters were a bit vague but I want to go deeper into this world.
