Synopsis: Seconds before the Earth is demolished to make way for a galactic freeway, Arthur Dent is plucked off the planet by his friend Ford Prefect, a researcher for the revised edition of The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy who, for the last fifteen years, has been posing as an out-of-work actor.
Together this dynamic pair begin a journey through space aided by quotes from The Hitchhiker’s Guide (“A towel is about the most massively useful thing an interstellar hitchhiker can have”) and a galaxy-full of fellow travelers: Zaphod Beeblebrox–the two-headed, three-armed ex-hippie and totally out-to-lunch president of the galaxy; Trillian, Zaphod’s girlfriend (formally Tricia McMillan), whom Arthur tried to pick up at a cocktail party once upon a time zone; Marvin, a paranoid, brilliant, and chronically depressed robot; Veet Voojagig, a former graduate student who is obsessed with the disappearance of all the ballpoint pens he bought over the years.

This is one of my challenge books. A book that was published the year I was born. Let’s not look that up m’k? This book was pretty funny. And a bit ridiculous. I couldn’t tell you if it was way over my head or if it was meant to be so confusing that you just gave trying to understand. I laughed a lot. There isn’t a whole lot I can say about this books characters. A couple humans who didn’t really know what was going on, a couple aliens who thought they knew what was going on. A depressed robot who I thought was adorable, especially when he made the other ship commit suicide. And some really money hungry mice who actually did know what was going on. I think. It ends abruptly with them getting away and proceeding to get their grub on. So, I guess I need to read the next one to find out why the president messed with his brain. And if they are gonna rebuild earth, and if they get caught for stealing the heart of gold. And a bunch of other little things that I’m sure need to be addressed.
