The 2022 Backlist Reader Challenge is hosted by Lark @ The Bookwyrm’s Hoard. #BacklistReader

There are no levels to this challenge, you just set your reading goal.  All books must be released prior to 2021, and must already be on your TBR List (I loved that this challenge was for a year older books, as well as restrictions on what books can count).  You don’t have to own the book before this challenge starts, but you have to have recorded somewhere that you wanted to read it — this can mean wishlists or for me I’ll be counting tags in my library apps.  My goal is 42 books (the answer to life, the universe, and everything)!  I’ll likely not be counting DNF’s, especially if I DNF prior to 50%.

COYER 2022 is hosted by Berls and Michelle @ Because Reading Is Better Than Real Life, Stephanie @ Once Upon a Chapter and Lillian @ Mom With a Reading Problem.  #COYER

COYER stands for Clean Out Your E-Reads, and was initially about reading free (or nearly free) e-books and writing reviews for them.

This year COYER is separated into two different sections: COYER Seasons and COYER Community.  COYER Seasons is more like the original (and will be split into 4 seasons, each with different twists); whereas COYER Community emphasizes activities that have a community aspect.

COYER Fall: October – December — The List, The Strict, and the One with the Twist!

  1. Pick your COYER Experience. Pick to participate in The List, The Strict, or The One with the Twist for the entirety of COYER Fall. Here’s how each one works:
    • The List: Make a list of books you want to read. Price, format, and where you get them from (legally) won’t matter, just like in the summer. Only the books you put on your sign-up list will count for COYER. You may put as many as you want on the list, but must read 50% of the list for them to count. So if I put 50 books, I have to read 25 of them. If I put 10, then I only have to read 5… but the most that can count are the original ten. So you have to gamble a little bit here 🙂
    • The Strict: Fairly obvious here… follow the strict rules of COYER Winter.
    • The One with the Twist: Pick your format and stick to it! You can choose print, eBook, or audiobook. It doesn’t matter the price or where you get the books from (legally). If they are in your chosen format, they count.

I’m boldly picking The List, even though I am NOT good at lists.  But I’m going to try to balance my need to read whatever I want by having a variety, and not picking too many books.  I present, my list:

Have you started a series but haven’t finished it yet? Well now is your chance. This must be a series you ALREADY started not the start of a new series. The goal is to catch up or finish what you started in a current series. All the books don’t have to be out and you can read as many or as few in the series as you want. If you want to read just the next book go right ahead. The point is to get caught up or finish that series you have been working on.

2022 Bookish Resolutions Challenge is hosted by Berls and Michelle @ Because Reading Is Better Than Real Life.  #BookishRes2022

Bookish Resolutions Challenge is about setting New Year’s Resolutions for reading, book blogging or writing.  What I really like is that it’s a way for me to take certain personal challenges I’ve been wanting to tackle and put them in a broader challenge so I can keep track.

Rules:

  1. Create 5 or more resolutions related to reading/book blogging/writing (see examples on the sign up; you can have as many resolutions as you would like, there is no limit)
  2. Since this is a year long challenge pick goals with some longevity. Pick a goal that will take you no less than 6 months to complete.
  3. Once your goals are set you cannot change them.

Lenore’s Resolutions:

  1. Read at least 1 book kept from my Down the TBR Hole meme each month (does not have to be one kept in that month, as long as it has been saved from the purge thus far).
  2. Clean up my currently reading list by finishing books that I paused, or writing and posting reviews that have been sitting waiting.  And once cleaned up, keep it *actually* current (so at the end of the year, make sure there aren’t long outstanding books still on the list).
  3. Read at least 3 anthologies from front to back.  Pick anthologies that have at least 5 different stories in them.  Make sure 1 of the 3 anthologies is one of the biggies with over 500 pages.  I keep taking advantage of free/cheap anthologies where my fave authors have stories, and then never getting to them.
  4. Read at least 20 of the remaining Harlequin Presents paperbacks I own and reread/read them so I can finally either get rid of them, or know I’m keeping the ones I still enjoy as 2022 Lenore.  (I originally thought I’d put all, but with my other resolutions, I don’t think it was feasible).  I can still count it if I DNF the book, b/c either way I’m getting rid of it.
  5. Reread and finally finish 2 of the longer (at least 5 books) Harlequin series I’ve been sitting on for a decade (possibilities: Redstone Incorporated by Justine Davis, The Medusa Project by Cindy Dees, Eagle Squadron series by Ingrid Weaver, Last Chance Heroes series by Linda Winstead Jones, The Texas Firefighters by Amy Knupp, Alaskan Heat by Jennifer LaBrecque).
  6. Reread and finally review at least 4 previous beta reads (I’m currently sitting on 34 unreviewed beta reads).

Currently Reading Clean-up:

  • As of January 1st, I am “currently reading” 12 books on Goodreads.  1 I am legit currently reading, 2 will have reviews posted soon.  That leaves 9, consisting of: 3 unfinished anthologies; 2 books I’ve set aside; 3 box sets marked as currently reading b/c I assumed I was going to binge read the set; and 1 audio book finished in 2020 whose review I haven’t posted.
  • On February 4th I created a “partially-read” shelf, and moved 2 of the box sets I am currently reading, but might not get back to for awhile to that shelf.  I now have 11 in my “currently reading” shelf.  3 I am legit currently reading, 1 will have its review posted soon.  The rest are 3 unfinished anthologies, 2 books I’ve set aside, 1 box set marked currently reading, and 1 review from 2020 that I need to post.
  • I posted the 2020 review on May 25th!  I have 14 in my “currently reading” shelf.  3 I am legit currently reading, 4 need to have their reviews posted.  The rest are 4 unfinished anthologies, 2 books I’ve set aside, and 1 box set marked currently reading.
  • I finished one of the 3 unfinished anthologies in July 2022!  Go me!  2 more to go.
