Blurb:

Devastatingly handsome French tycoon Pascal Lévêque has his sights set on Alana Cusack. Her seeming inexperience intrigues him--she used to be married!

Alana's marriage was a sham. It left her feeling unattractive and unwanted. Now that Pascal has claimed her as his mistress, he'll teach the innocent Alana how much pleasure can be had in the bedroom....

But passion leads to pregnancy, and Pascal vows he'll take Alana in Paris...and to the altar!

My Review:

3.5 stars — Well bummer.  Honestly, this one started off GREAT!  I had super high hopes.  I’d say the first half (maybe more) was solid 4 stars, maybe even 4.5.  But…*sigh*  The climb to the end was frustrating, and the wrap up was too convenient.  And as I told my hubby, a great book without a good ending, just isn’t a great book anymore.

Initially I enjoyed Alana.  She had moments of strength and sassiness that I appreciated.  Her past marriage affected her a lot, and I felt for her.  I mean, I disagreed with her choices (especially with her family), but I felt for her.  To say she had trust issues would be a massive understatement.  And in the end, she lost my empathy along the way, b/c I truly didn’t understand why she was holding on so hard.

Pascal could be up and down.  Occasionally he was too much of a jerk, or I wasn’t appreciating his “colder” side, but then he would have these great moments where you could feel how much he cared.  I think the author tried to have the best of both worlds with Pascal, and it wasn’t entirely successful.  More successful than Alana, but…

They were pretty hot together.  Though that whole “virgin mistress” thing on the back of the book?  Uh, maybe they need to refresh their memories on what a virgin means.  Not that I care either way, but it is a bit weird.

There was basically *zero* secondary cast in this book.  Legit.  But, I think that can be common in Presents books.

Either way, I got another one read and I can let this one go.  I’m bummed, but mostly just because it had been surprising me in a good way, and then it stopped working for me.
