Blurb:

From the New York Times best-selling author of The Love Hypothesis comes a new steamy, STEMinist novella….

A scientist should never cohabitate with her annoyingly hot nemesis – it leads to combustion.

Mara, Sadie, and Hannah are friends first, scientists always. Though their fields of study might take them to different corners of the world, they can all agree on this universal truth: when it comes to love and science, opposites attract and rivals make you burn….

As an environmental engineer, Mara knows all about the delicate nature of ecosystems. They require balance. And leaving the thermostat alone. And not stealing someone else’s food. And other rules Liam, her detestable big-oil lawyer of a roommate, knows nothing about. Okay, sure, technically she’s the interloper. Liam was already entrenched in his aunt’s house like some glowering grumpy giant when Mara moved in, with his big muscles and kissable mouth just sitting there on the couch tempting respectable scientists to the dark side…but Helena was her mentor and Mara’s not about to move out and give up her inheritance without a fight.

The problem is, living with someone means getting to know them. And the more Mara finds out about Liam, the harder it is to loathe him…and the easier it is to love him.

My Review:

4.5 stars — Well I was sucked in right from start to finish!  I don’t know if it was because Emma Wilder did such a great job narrating, and I could listen to her Liam for hours on end, or if the story was just that absorbing…so we’ll go with both.

Obviously loved the narrator.  She NAILED Mara’s sense of humour and awkwardness — it was perfect.  And she was delightful as the awkward Liam as well.  Great pacing, great emotions, fantastic voices.

Mara was pretty delightful, in this sassy, sarcastic, self-deprecating, but not without self-confidence way.  She had some hurdles to maneuver in this story, and while she could be a bit oblivious, I still loved her.  She knew who she was, and was happy with herself.  I loved that Liam helped her recognize her professional worth, because that girl was a superstar.

Liam was pretty adorable.  I know he was hard to read for Mara, but after the first blip, not so much to the reader.  I loved how subtle his humour could be, and just how freaking cute he was in his not that subtle crush on Mara.  I’m also saying he’s on the ace spectrum.  I’m not sure why this author doesn’t want to delve into it with labels, but let’s just say that this demi girl understood some of the things at the end.

I really loved that the book started off with a teaser of the ending, so we knew what it was building up towards.  It was lovely to get the hint, but then see how their relaitonship developed.

So yeah, super sucked in, can’t wait to read Sadie and Hannah’s stories.
