Blurb:

An unexpected glitch in his plan... Working late is nothing new for tycoon Alex – and it’s the perfect excuse to get close to office-cleaner Rosie Gray. He’s promised his ailing godfather he’ll discover whether his long-lost granddaughter is a worthy heir.

Intoxicated by the after-hours attention of this mysterious, suave businessman, Rosie finds her dreams destroyed with the slamming of the bedroom door on their one-night stand. Discovering she’s pregnant, she goes to confront him – but no one at work has heard of Alex Kolovos… They do, however, know Alexius Stavroulakis, the CEO, and he has a glittering proposal for her!

My Review:

ORIGINAL REVIEW:
4 stars — OK, I have generally always loved Lynne Graham books…there are always exceptions to the rule, but I know I can gamble on her books and *usually* come out a winner. This was no exception and reminded me why Ms. Graham takes the “Presents” genre and goes with it without the usual pitfalls that are so common in other Presents books. You have the requisite multi-billionaire tycoon hero, with his large ego and emotional stuntedness…. Alex fit this profile, and yet I could legitimately believe how he grew up to behave that way. Now, where we have refreshing-ness — that is all Rosie. OMG, I heart her. I can practically predict how heroines will act usually, but she threw most of that out the wall. She was the usual innocent, kind, basic foil for Alex. But she was also snarky, a bit sassy, and had a huge backbone that was AWESOME! She said all the things to Alex that I usually want the heroines to tell the heroes, but they usually keep their mouths shut. She called everything like it was. Yup, she is *my* hero. So yeah, for fans of Presents books who occasionally miss a strong heroine, look no further….read this one. Hopefully you’ll enjoy it as much as I did.

ON REREAD:
3 stars — I kind of even want to rate it less, but I think that’s the disappointment talking.  The thing is, I just can’t unsee the toxic elements now.  9 years later, and there is basically nothing redeeming about Alex.  Rosie truly is pretty awesome for a Presents heroine — refreshing, with a backbone.  If it wasn’t a Harlequin Presents, then it probably wouldn’t be quite as unusual, but I give props where they’re due.

Alex, on the other hand, had NOTHING going for him.  He was high handed, snobby, resentful…I mean really, I don’t think he ever really turned a corner for me, not even at the end.  There were glimmers, but they didn’t go anywhere.  I need my heroes to have an element of good to them to make them worth seeing if they’ll get their heads out of their asses, and well…yeah no.

There was also a moment right at the end where he basically slut shamed her clothing choice, and while Rosie did bite back against it, she became more tickled about him being jealous…but in his jealousy he blamed *her*??  Um no.  Can’t do it.

Shit, maybe this is a 2.5 rounded up now.  See?  This is why I worry about rereading books…I’m so different now!
