Blurb:

Maggie Hendricks loves her life. She’s got a great job, amazing friends. Everything is perfect - except for one smallish problem. Maggie can’t quite get there, sexually speaking. It’s just never happened for her. And while she tells herself she’s fine with that, she can’t help feeling as though she’s missing out.

When her friend shares the intimate details of an encounter with an extremely talented lover, Maggie makes a desperate pact with herself. She will seduce this man - or allow him to seduce her - and if he can’t get her there...well, then she’ll hand herself over to medical science. A simple enough plan. What could possible go wrong?

Within minutes of meeting Rafel Oliveira, Maggie knows the answer to that one: plenty. But Rafel turns out to be far more than simply talented in the bedroom. As he takes her on a journey toward the ultimate pleasure, Maggie finds herself craving a lot more than his beautiful body. The question is, is Rafel’s heart available for the taking?

My Review:

4.5 stars — Do you ever have reading deja vu?  I got that a lot reading this book, but I genuinely don’t know if I read it, or it was just deja vu.  Didn’t diminish my enjoyment one bit though.

I definitely had moments where I was uncertain where it was going to go, or if the characters were going to frustrate me…and then much to my delight, they wouldn’t necessarily follow the tropey ways, and I would actually see growth from them!  I love it when books and characters do that for me.

Maggie and Rafel were both pretty fun characters.  So different in so many ways, and yet they fit.  I loved what they brought out in one another.  They both had epic moments of sass and fun, mixed with heart and caring.

This book starts off a bit more like an erotic romance, just by the nature of their meeting and their initial “goals”.  Not always my favourite, but I stuck it out with them, and their connection was solid from the start.  It was satisfying to watch it go from steam chemistry to more chemistry.

I loved the way Maggie’s “problem” was dealt with.  I know it’s something that many women face, and they all think they’re alone.  It wasn’t just a quick fix, and even though the story didn’t delve into deeper possibilities (because it wasn’t needed in Maggie’s case), I still thought it was an interesting plot point.  I especially appreciated the time she took on her own afterwards.

There was a lot of ups and downs in this story — I definitely had moments of anxiety for these 2.  But I was satisfied with their HEA at the end.

And for my fellow second hand embarrassment peeps…I definitely felt some.  Especially at the beginning with the proposition.  You have been warned.

All in all, it was exactly what I expect from Ms. Mayberry, and I was happy to finally read the first brother’s story.
