At first when I started reading it I was a little irritated becaause I wanted to hear more of Gabby and Clay’s story.  But Emmitt really started to grow on me.  He was so conseiderate of her boundaries and giving her the space she needed.  And this seems to be a theme for the series.  The men are not agressive and forceful with the women but patient and understanding.

This book was a little bit more violent.  Right from the beginning it was action and fear and running and helplessness.  I feel like the author did a really good job of transporting me into Michelle’s emotions.  I felt it when I was reading it. I was scared for the little boys. I have a child of my own so thinking about those things happening to my kid was very emotional for me.

I liked Emmitt, he was awesome.  But I gotta say, I liked Jim (Emmitt’s brother) better.  He was a little bit more playful than Emmit.  Emmitt seemed to take everything seriously. And while thats a great trait to have when dealing with someone who was abused and held captive, Jim just brang the right amount of levity to bring it down a notch.  It helped with the ebb and flow of the story.

One of the recurring issues I’m having with this series is that the women in it are quite young.  The emotional maturity of these teenagers doesn’t really jive with me for the age that they are. I know that they have gone through intense situations which make you grow up faster but at the same time I had a hard time believing the age of these females. That was a little bit inconsistent for me but…for the most part this was par for the course book in this series.
