Clay’s Hope by Melissa Haag

My Review:
4 stars — I know alternative POV books aren’t everyone’s cup of tea, but I actually tend to love them.  As long as they give you something new.  And since Clay never spoke through almost the entirety of Hope(less), I really wanted to know what he was thinking!!  And since I LOVED Clay, I had high hopes for this book.  And I, personally, really enjoyed it.  But I didn’t love it as much as I was expecting.

So what I loved: I got into Clay’s head.  I loved that what I thought I knew was going on in Clay’s head based on his reactions and Gabby’s conclusions weren’t always correct.  For example, when she bought the used car.   It was actually kind of hilarious.  And I LOVED knowing his feelings for her, and seeing all he was trying to do to prove he would be a great mate for her.  It actually broke my heart at times, and almost made me dislike Gabby a bit more, but oh well.

Oh the bad side, other than getting inside Clay’s head for most of the events of Hope(less), we really didn’t get a lot in addition to that.  I mean, yeah, we got to see him get the job and fight the challengers, but there really wasn’t a lot of new content otherwise.  In particular I was hoping we would get more about his past and how he grew up and how it shaped him.  But it really wasn’t there, which I guess is consistent with the lack of background we got on Gabby.  So I was still disappointed in that.  I really felt like more could have been done in both books in that respect.

So all in all, if you are a fan of alternative POVs, you’ll enjoy this one.  If you don’t get them, then you should probably avoid.  You really aren’t getting a lot of new stuff in this book, it’s really like a novel written for fans.  Which I am, so yay for me.
