Blurb:

In this sequel to the bestselling fantasy thriller, Angelfall, the survivors of the angel apocalypse begin to scrape back together what's left of the modern world.

When a group of people capture Penryn's sister Paige, thinking she's a monster, the situation ends in a massacre. Paige disappears. Humans are terrified. Mom is heartbroken.

Penryn drives through the streets of San Francisco looking for Paige. Why are the streets so empty? Where is everybody? Her search leads her into the heart of the angels' secret plans where she catches a glimpse of their motivations, and learns the horrifying extent to which the angels are willing to go.

Meanwhile, Raffe hunts for his wings. Without them, he can't rejoin the angels, can't take his rightful place as one of their leaders. When faced with recapturing his wings or helping Penryn survive, which will he choose?

My Review:

Favorite Quotes:

There are kids my age, but I don’t recognize any of them. Even though a lot of them are as tall as adults, they don’t stray far from their parents. Some of the girls are tucked under the arms of their moms or dads like little kids. They seem safe and secure, protected and loved, looking like they belong. I wonder what that’s like? Is it as good as it looks from the outside?

This book meets the Demonic space requirement for #SFvFBingo being hosted by Curiosity Killed the Bookworm.

I finished this book so fast!  It was excellent.  I loved the ending of the last book and the beginning of this one.  I loved how we don’t see a lot of Raffe yet because of the sword he still remains a relevant character showing growth and affection in Penryn’s eyes.  I love how Penryn’s character progresses more consistently but without losing her true self.  We see her struggles in this book and I felt the weight she carries.  Somehow, she is thrust into a role where people are counting on her and although is it not something she wants, she begins to see that sometimes there is more to life than just trying to look out for her family.

She tries to walk that line of doing what’s best for her family and doing what she knows is right for the human race.  I don’t know that I would have kept as level a head as her if I was forced to choose.  We see a lot of characters from the previous book in this one as well.  While not MC’ they do become instrumental to Penryn’s story.  The twins are great comic relief and I loved how they were able to transform themselves into anyone.  Obe is a great martyr in this series, smart, confident and strong willed. The resistance is in need of Penryn’s knowledge of angels and she helps them out a bit.  She doesn’t completely betray Raffe, not that they are necessarily allies in this book.  They do have somewhat of a relationship.

Raffe seems to go a bit dark in this one.  We really see how much he has come to care for Penryn and his angels that fell.  We also get to see a different side to Penryn’s little sister, Paige, and her relationship with Beliel.  That was just a weird messed up experience for me.  I wanted to hate him, yet it was like stockholm syndrome, I couldn’t.

This story has so many twists and turns it would take forever to explain them all, just go read the dang book!
