Blurb:

Maddie Collins, first grade teacher at Cobble Creek Elementary, is not a man-hater. Sure, her absent father gave men a bad name, and her mother always warned her that high hopes were dangerous things, but Maddie still hopes to find a man who’ll return the love she has to offer. When lumberjack, Bear Schaefer takes an interest in her, Maddie allows her hopes to soar above the tree tops.    Bear Schaefer, aka poster boy for Big Daddy Mills, has been dying to get back to Cobble Creek. As part owner and operator of an environmentally proactive logging company, he has a list of things vying for his attention. But none are quite so alluring as the lovely Maddie Collins. Date after date their connection grows deeper while the sparks grow hotter. Yet just as things become serious between them, a vengeful woman from Bear’s past threatens to tear them apart. With Maddie’s hopes for love so high, and Bear’s love so deep, a fall would be more devastating than a forest fire.

My Review:

This was a cute short Christmas novella. It was kind of slow and I felt that the back and forth on Maddie’s part was not necessary.  She had some serious insecurities and allowed her mom and sister to get in her head without checking her source. Mom was damaged and bitter and projected that onto both of her daughter’s really messing with their heads. It’s a shame really because a misunderstanding was blown way out of proportion and could have been avoided.

I also felt like Bear’s worrying about keeping his partner’s daughter happy was dumb.  His company’s position was never in contention and he let stuff like the social media posts dictate how he reacted.  I felt that he worried too much about what everybody else was doing and thinking than about his company. It was very unattractive and he should have just did what made him happy and let the chips fall where they may.

It was cute how they weren’t afraid to show they liked each other and spent like 16 days in a row together.  I also enjoyed the second chance romance part even if it was only touched on in passing. Bear’s extravagant apology and do-over was just adorable.  I’d read more from this author.
