Blurb:The Selection began with thirty-five girls. Now with the group narrowed down to the six Elite, the competition to win Prince Maxon's heart is fiercer than ever—and America is still struggling to decide where her heart truly lies. Is it with Maxon, who could make her life a fairy tale? Or with her first love, Aspen?
America is desperate for more time. But the rest of the Elite know exactly what they want—and America's chance to choose is about to slip away.

Love is beautiful fear.
This book was a gift from my blogging wife Lenore. And I loved it! I will admit that the waffling back and forth was a bit overdone but this was a minor inconvenience compared to the way it was written. It was just weaved so beautifully. I thought the love story was going to be the secondary plot to the dystopian unrest in the kingdom. And now that I think about it, there wasn’t really any resolution to that in this one. But I loved the world building and the civil unrest just the same. I just wish it had a bigger focus in the story.
The competition was so anxiety ridden that I was pretty frustrated with it to be honest, but I think that was the point. It was hard to be friends with someone while hoping they lose at the same time. Makes it very hard to be transparent and compassionate. But these girls were able to deal with it quite gracefully I think. And through the hardships of competition, they found immense respect and I dare say a deep friendship for each other. Except for Celeste, but she had her own motives that I understood after knowing them.
I really was hoping to find Maxon’s dark side in this book, but alas, he was exactly what he appeared to be. After I realized there was no secret motive on his part I became quite tired of the love triangle. And I didn’t understand America’s reluctance to voice her feelings to Maxon, I mean, I guess she was scared of being vulnerable, but it was drawn out to far for my liking.
A fantastic follow up to the first one, I will be keeping my eye out for this author.
I’m happy you ended up loving this one. That waffling you mentioned made me DNF this one at page 43. I just couldn’t handle America, which was sad because I enjoyed the first book a lot. Great review!
