Blurb:Head of the class...
Garrett Daniels has this whole life thing figured out.
The cocky, charismatic former high school star quarterback is an idolized football coach and "cool" teacher in the hometown where he's not just a golden boy — he's platinum. He has good friends, a great house on the lake, and the best damn sidekick a man could ask for: Snoopy, the albino beagle.
Then...Callie Carpenter comes home.
And knocks him right on his tight end zone.
Back to school...
Callie has a pretty sweet life herself...on the other side of the country. But circumstances — that she'd prefer to never speak of again — have brought her back home, helping out her parents and substitute teaching at her old high school.
Now she's facing bickering, raging hormones, constant gossip, awkward weirdness, and drama galore...and that's just the teachers.
Just like old times...
When Garrett offers to show his former high school sweetheart the secrets of his winning teacher ways, Callie jumps at the chance - and then has to stop herself from jumping him.
Good friends are all they can ever be.
Or...these teachers just might end up getting schooled — hard — by love.
Listening Length: 7 hours and 15 minutes
4.5 stars — This book was just funny and delightful from start to finish. It made my heart happy, it had me laughing out loud, it had me crying, it was…exactly what I needed.
Zachary Webber’s female voices and kid voices weren’t my fave, but they didn’t offend me like some narrators. I LOVE the rest of his narration though.
I’ve heard a lot about Andi Arndt, and I thought she was solid too. Lots of emotion portrayed. Occasionally her secondary voices weren’t super distinct, but it didn’t bother me that much.
Garrett and Callie were just everything I love about main characters. They were both just solid. They made mistakes, but they were inherently good people.
I loved that there wasn’t some fictional blowout, that what drove them apart was sooooo real and realistic, but without horrible recriminations that couldn’t be taken back. I loved that it wasn’t a question of them loving each other. I loved that the time apart was probably good for them to grow, but seeing them find one another again was just…romance perfection.
Super great chemistry from start to finish. I loved that Garrett was this popular jock, and he could be terribly cocky, but he truly loved Callie and was faithful to her. He wasn’t a stereotype, and their romance wasn’t a stereotype.
I loved the glimpses of them being teachers. I loved how much they both cared for their students. I loved that the students were bratty and realistic, but also had goodness. I loved the decisions Garrett and Callie made, and that they always felt like the right ones. It was nice to see their responsible sides making the hard decisions.
Solid secondary cast, I can definitely see enjoying more books in this universe. Great little town.
Snoopy was amazing. Garrett with Snoopy was amazing. <3 <3
I wrote this bullet point type review when I finished, and then proceeded to get sick. I kept thinking I’d go back and clean it up, but meh…it says what I need it to say — which is that this book was PERFECT for me, it made me so happy, and reminded me why I love Ms. Chase’s writing voice. Can’t wait for Dean’s book.
I love Zachary Webber, too! It makes me wish I had listened to this one instead of reading it. Although, reading it was fun too. I agree that it was hilarious. It was also just kind of a sweet and easy romance read. I liked that about it.
I’m sorry you’ve been sick! That’s no fun.
Thanks chickie! I’m feeling much better now. But dude, this whole year has been terrible for me keeping up on blogging stuff other than writing my reviews. I love reading all your comments, and I appreciate them so much even if I haven’t gotten around to replying!!
As for the book, if you’re ever in the mood for a reread, I definitely recommend the audio!!
This one looks good.
