Blurb:

A new comedy from the USA Today bestselling duo!

MacA good cop can always spot trouble. That’s why my senses started pinging the moment I met the hottie next door. The neighborhood may never be the same. First she confuses me for a male stripper and tries to remove my uniform. (The guys on the force will never let me live that down.) And then there’s the breaking and entering.I don’t know what to do with her. My libido has a few ideas of its own, though. Bad, bad ideas.

MegHey, it’s not my fault that Hot Cop’s nightstick gets excited every time we see each other. And I can’t help that someone broke into his apartment. Fine—that last thing was totally my fault. And I intend to make amends. So when he needs a date for his sister’s wedding, I’m there. This is right up my alley. I’m an actor. By the time it’s over, his entire family will believe we’re a couple. Even him.

Warning: may cause unrestrained giggling in public. Contains: a bridezilla with a turkey leg, a flash mob, and a growly hero.

My Review:

4.5 stars — I can’t tell you how many books I read where I get sucked right in, loving them, and then that enthrallment fades as the book goes on.  In a weird twist of fate, this book was the EXACT OPPOSITE for me.  I’m not sure if it’s because I started it while on a road trip, so I didn’t have dedicated time to read, but I wasn’t immediately sucked in.  Which is not to say I wasn’t enjoying myself.  I mean, my god, I think I almost woke up my husband trying to stifle my laughing in bed (that binoculars scene, OMG).  But I think I was wary of Mac and Meg.  I don’t even know why.  I think because they’re just different from my usual faves.

BUT YOU GUYS…FUCK.  I don’t even know where the turning point was for me…maybe their first steamy scene?  Maybe earlier?  All I know is that they both captured my heart and opened my eyes, and made me just feel so much.  Which is a weird thing to say for a romantic comedy, but it’s true.   I mean sure, the hilarious moments were HILARIOUS.  And sure, the dirty talking was fucking HOT.  But that’s not what changed this book from a 4 star to a 4.5 star for me.  It was the heart.  It was the hurt.  It was the realism.  It was people making mistakes, and holding on to grudges, and finally opening themselves up to the possibility of more.  That’s the gold my friends.  And I totally get that that makes no sense to anyone who hasn’t read the book, but whatever…it’s my review.

Meg was so much more than I was expecting after meeting her in Boy Toy.  I loved seeing her struggle with what she wanted to do with her life, and trying to reevaluate her passion.  I also loved seeing her get to this point in her life where she’s just not going to accept less anymore.  I loved that she put herself out there, but that she wouldn’t let herself be walked on.  I loved the way she saw the world, and how she brought this light to others lives as well.

And I was worried about how stubborn Mac was about not wanting a commitment, but when you find out where that stems from, I get it.  It’s stupid, but I get it.  I loved how passionate he was about his job, and wanting to help others.  It was seriously admirable.  And even though normally this drives me insane, I appreciated how long it took him to wake up and change…because you know what?  Sometimes that’s how humans are.  It makes the lessons and the change that much more satisfying.

The two of them together were just gold.  Not just in steamy chemistry, but honestly in the way they seemed to bring out great things in one another.  I LOVE banter.  Like I love it.  And these two just delighted me to no end.  I think Meg helping Mac at the wedding had me grinning over and over again.

And you know what else was awesome about this book?  The secondary characters.  PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE tell me we’re getting AT LEAST books for Cassidy and Aubrey…and Lance.  I need them all to have books.  kthxbye.  I could wax poetic about all of those friends and the things they bring to the story, but it wasn’t just them.  It was Mac’s parents and sister too.  It was a delightful cast.

So yeah.  Such a weird reading experience.  I love when characters surprise me…when a book surprises me.  I mean, in a good way of course.  😛

  1. What a great review! I’m so glad that it didn’t end up being a book that was just meh for you. I loved it’s cooky humor, but you’re right. The realistic parts were what won me over, too.
