**Adult Romance**
Benella is concerned with two things - avoiding the two village boys who torment her and scrounging for food to help feed her family. Unfortunately, the best wild fruit and vegetables are near the walls of the estate, a dark misty place inhabited by an unforgiving beast.
When her tormentors lock her behind the massive gates, Benella knows her fate is sealed. Yet, the fate isn't one she expects. Her encounter with the beast starts a bizarre cycle of bargaining for her freedom, a freedom the beast seems determined to see her lose.
A classic fairy tale with a new twist, the Beauty and the Beast saga begins with Depravity.
Intended for mature readers due to sexual situations and moderate language.

My Review:

This one was ok, the story didn’t move very fast but the character development made up for it. Even though it wasn’t as fast as I usually like. I was really surprised I didn’t like it more. I love Melissa Haag’s writing but this one was by far the worst book I’ve read by her.  Which is a shame because Beauty and the Beast is one of my favorite fairy tales to read.

It was almost a cross between BATB and Cinderella.  Her dad was an idiot and her sisters treated her like she was a servant.  I didn’t like how she was the only one that seemed worth redeeming.  I like when the side charatcers have depth as well.  But that was not the case in this one.  I didn’t care about her family at all and felt it took too long for them to get their comeupance.

And the beast was wanting in my opinion.  He didn’t really do much of anything except let her in his house.  He wasn’t really a big bad. And we don’t get to know him that much so I didn’t connect with his character enough to care about his relationship with the chic.

50.0% “It’s very intriguing but not a lot of action is happening. There is a lot of internal growth and discovery so there’s that.”
