Fall in love, break the curse.
It once seemed so easy to Prince Rhen, the heir to Emberfall. Cursed by a powerful enchantress to repeat the autumn of his eighteenth year over and over, he knew he could be saved if a girl fell for him. But that was before he learned that at the end of each autumn, he would turn into a vicious beast hell-bent on destruction. That was before he destroyed his castle, his family, and every last shred of hope.
Nothing has ever been easy for Harper. With her father long gone, her mother dying, and her brother barely holding their family together while constantly underestimating her because of her cerebral palsy, she learned to be tough enough to survive. But when she tries to save someone else on the streets of Washington, DC, she's instead somehow sucked into Rhen's cursed world.
Break the curse, save the kingdom.
A prince? A monster? A curse? Harper doesn't know where she is or what to believe. But as she spends time with Rhen in this enchanted land, she begins to understand what's at stake. And as Rhen realizes Harper is not just another girl to charm, his hope comes flooding back. But powerful forces are standing against Emberfall . . . and it will take more than a broken curse to save Harper, Rhen, and his people from utter ruin.
Favorite Quotes:
I wonder what path the curse would have taken if we had arrived a minute later and found Harper dead. I’m so furious that I’m tempted to nock another arrow and find out.
I loved everything about this book but the best part was the slow burn romance. First came confusion, then grudging respect, then friendship until it seemlessly evolved into true love. And it wasn’t easy, it was real and genuine and vulnerable and honest. Those are the best love stories for me.
Rhen was so dark and broody and he didn’t want to hope but he held a tiny bit of it very close to his chest. Harper was a little spitfire and challenged him at every turn. The dialogue was the real winner here because they spoke and communicated throughout when even the littlest thing could have been misconstrued, it was addressed. I loved that so much and it made all their interactions mean that much more because there was no confusion as to the what and the why of them. If that makes sense.
Grey was a show stealer with his stoic determination and loyalty to the crown, even though he wasn’t necessarily treated the best, he was always thinking ourside of himself and that is what I loved the most about him. Harper was cynical and in many ways very similar to Rhen, which is what I think may have drawn them together so quickly. Once they had a commen goal in mind, they were nearly unstoppanle in their efforts to save the kingdom. I loved how Rhen was still able to focus once he turned. This is a so full of martydom and selfless acts that I can’t not love it. I love a good retelling and this one was the best one I have read so far. I could go on and on but it will just be more of the same if I do. I also loved the fact that family was such an intregal part of this story. Layers, ya’ll, so many layers.

She pushed him to be better than he was, and he semed like he just needed a reason to fight. That reason seemed to be Harper. Grey is and will probably always will be my favorite side character.”
