I’m done.Getting ditched at the altar is nothing compared to being humiliated there in front of three hundred shocked guests. Apparently I’m no good at spotting the signs your man’s a cheating liar. So I set off solo on my honeymoon to Hawaii, where I realize I’ve got this life thing down just fine on my own.
Friendships and laughter? Yes.
Adventures? Absolutely.
But relationships? Hell no. Never again.Knox
I’m a man of few words. My reputation as a moody prick is deserved, but only the handful of people who really know me see the man beneath the professional mask.I’m a protector. A warrior. That part is true. But the world doesn’t get to see the rest of me. And women don’t seem to mind my gruff exterior—my bed’s always warm.
I’m content with life—loving it, even—or so I thought. But when I meet a beautiful pastry chef with a broken heart and a smile that softens me down to my soul, I realize I wasn’t really content at all before her.
I only wish I had the words to let her know.
3.5 stars — *sigh* These books are super fast to gobble up, and I do enjoy that in some ways. But it does mean that, again, not a lot of time is given to certain plot points to really expand on the emotional impact. In this case it was Knox’s father, and Reese’s healing.
Knox was pretty steady. I thought he was sweet, and while it was odd that he was so anti-relationship and then was gung-ho relationship, I kind of just accepted it and moved on. I appreciated how much he cared for his friends, that he was close to his family, and that he truly admired all the ambitions of Reese.
I wish that if we were going to skip ahead 14 months, we would have gotten just a wee bit more in flashbacks or something explaining how Reese was doing, how she was healing, etc. It was kind of hand wavy. I enjoyed her in general, but I didn’t fall in love. I think it’s because I could only accept her fear of relationships so far before it was just kind of ridiculous.
The two of them together were actually both sweet and hot. I liked seeing them get to know each other in Kauai, and the sort of courting Knox did upon second meeting. And the few steamy scenes we got were…well, steamy. But I will admit that the time jump in their non-relationship relationship threw me off. I can’t believe we got cut short on those first moments of a couple. Basically, I was bummed.
The Blaze guys were pretty awesome, as always. The new owner was interesting. I feel like he was completely unrealistic in some senses, and that he was mostly used to magically solve some problems. *shrugs*
So yeah. It was okay. I enjoyed certain aspects, but it was a bit more shallow than even the previous ones. I think I’ll take a break from this series. I just find that I keep wanting more, and I have no doubt that will continue to happen.
So, in your opinion, is this series worth reading? You don’t seem to be loving them, but you’re flying through them. Just curious. đŸ˜‰
I definitely enjoyed the first 2 more than these 2…but I’m wondering if my mood is influencing it a bit, you know? I really was disappointed that there were these moments where we could have more depth in both books, and they were glossed over. So it depends if that’s the kind of thing that will bother you, you know? I figure at minimum I’ll take a break before trying another book (because I already own Alexei)….
Also, you know me…sometimes I’m just picky as fuck. đŸ˜›
Good to know! I think I’ll probably try the series again at some point. I have one of them on my Kindle to read. It might be this one.
That cover! ::fans self:: Dayum
