Down The TBR Hole is a meme created by Lia @ Lost in a Story that revolves around cleansing your TBR of all those books you’re never going to read and sort through it all to know what’s actually on there.

It works like this:

  • Go to your goodreads to-read shelf.
  • Order on ascending date added.
  • Take the first 5 (or 10 (or even more!) if youre feeling adventurous) books. Of course, if you do this weekly, you start where you left off the last time.
  • Read the synopses of the books
  • Decide: keep it or should it go?

This is all Lillian @Mom With a Reading Problem‘s fault.  She started doing this, and I couldn’t help but look at my Kindle, and all the titles that I don’t even remember what they’re about, and I just figured maybe I should start the CLEANSE.  It’s about the only CLEANSE you’ll see me participate in.  I’m going to be focussing entirely on my Kindle book problem at the moment, since it’s the craziest (and it’s what features most prominently in my Goodreads TBR).  And I’ve decided if a book goes, then I’m deleting it from my Kindle cloud library too — GONE!  Poof!  JUST DO IT!  My internal hoarder is screaming right now.

As of writing this post, my current Goodreads TBR shelf has 2119 books on it.  No, that’s not a typo.  You see why this meme might be good for me.  These first few are going to be super easy, b/c when I first got my Kindle I went crazy with free books.

Hollowland (The Hollows #1) by Amanda Hocking — I think this is another one of those books/series I probably would have enjoyed if I’d read it in 2011, but now there are just so many others that I gravitate to more.

Verdict: Goes

Romero (The Moreno Brothers #4) by Elizabeth Reyes — I read other books in this series a LONG time ago…and there’s a part of me that feels wrong not continuing, but I think if I was going to read more Ms. Reyes, I’d probably pick something more recent. Basically, as much as I’d like to read this one in theory, I know in practice it will keep getting forgotten.

Verdict: Goes

One Good Reason (Adamson Brothers #2) by Sarah Mayberry — Oh, I’mma be reading this. I love Ms. Mayberry, and honestly this is on my list of series I wouldn’t mind finishing this year.

Verdict: Stays

A Summer Reunion by Kasey Michaels, Sarah Mayberry, & Teresa Southwick — I bought this because I love Sarah Mayberry…but I just don’t feel that drawn to the blurb, so I think I’ll let it go.

Verdict: Goes

Life, Love, and a Polar Bear Tattoo (Toronto #1) by Heather Wardell — I’ve enjoyed another book by Ms. Wardell, but I’m just not sure if this one is for me (even if it is set in Canada). I have a feeling I would just keep overlooking it.

Verdict: Goes

Smolder (Dragon Souls #1) by Penelope Fletcher — So I recently just tried to reread another series by this author that I previously enjoyed, and the editing was so bad I just couldn’t. I read the first few pages, and while the editing seems to be better, the writing just isn’t for me.

Verdict: Goes

A Scent of Greek (Out of Olympus #2) by Tina Folsom — I think I read the first one and enjoyed it, but it didn’t blow me away enough to have me clamouring for this one.

Verdict: Goes

Soulless (Parasol Protectorate #1) by Gail Carriger — OK, I will admit that the blurb is still kind of intriguing…and I seem to have a few Goodreads friends who enjoyed it. But they enjoyed it in 2011 — would it hold up? Besides all that, it seems to be a long series, and I just don’t have time for that when I’m only somewhat intrigued.

Verdict: Goes

Going Harvey in the Big House by Douglas Smith — OK, I will admit I struggled deciding on this one. The blurb is a little hard to follow, but it’s a Canadian author…and it’s only a novella. But after reading the blurb for the 3rd time, I just feel like the writing style might be confusing for me. And I’m trying to be ruthless in my purging.

Verdict: Goes

The Fashion Police (Amber Fox #1) by Sibel Hodge — Now titled Fashion, Lies, & Murder. Either way, it’s a cozy mystery, which isn’t my genre…and it doesn’t really appeal to me enough to give it a shot.

Verdict: Goes

  1. Wait! You’ve read Elizabeth Reyes, too?!?! I don’t think I’ve met another blogger who has read her books. I think I’ve read most of them. I know I read the entire Moreno brothers series and loved it. I feel like her newer books crept from NA romance to NA romantic suspense.

    • I cannot reply right on my blog anymore! I have to go into my wordpress admit. So weird.

Yeah, I was always excited when I saw you reviewing her! It’s been a LONG time since I read her, and at the moment I’m scurr of rereading…but someday I’d like to read another of hers. Plus, she often writes #ownvoices!

      • That’s so weird! I wonder what’s happening there. I couldn’t comment on your posts through WP Reader and one other person’s last week either. Hopefully you don’t have a bug or something.

Yes, I know she sent out an email a while back saying something new was coming. I haven’t seen another email since, so maybe soon?

  2. Laura Pond

You made great progress on your tbr list but 2,110 books is crazy! I thought my list was long but you get the award for the longest list.
