Down The TBR Hole is a meme created by Lia @ Lost in a Story that revolves around cleansing your TBR of all those books you’re never going to read and sort through it all to know what’s actually on there.
It works like this:
- Go to your goodreads to-read shelf.
- Order on ascending date added.
- Take the first 5 (or 10 (or even more!) if you’re feeling adventurous) books. Of course, if you do this weekly, you start where you left off the last time.
- Read the synopses of the books
- Decide: keep it or should it go?
This is all Lillian @Mom With a Reading Problem‘s fault. She started doing this, and I couldn’t help but look at my Kindle, and all the titles that I don’t even remember what they’re about, and I just figured maybe I should start the CLEANSE. It’s about the only CLEANSE you’ll see me participate in. I’m going to be focussing entirely on my Kindle book problem at the moment, since it’s the craziest (and it’s what features most prominently in my Goodreads TBR). And I’ve decided if a book goes, then I’m deleting it from my Kindle cloud library too — GONE! Poof! JUST DO IT! My internal hoarder is screaming right now.
As of writing this post, my current Goodreads TBR shelf has 2104 books on it. No, that’s not a typo. You see why this meme might be good for me. These first few are going to be super easy, b/c when I first got my Kindle I went crazy with free books.
Come Back to Me by Melissa Foster — Eh, not interested.
Verdict: Goes
Erra (Gods and Thurs #1) by Poppet — Now titled Divine Liaisons: Erra (Liaisons #1). I can’t even parse the old blurb on Goodreads for the version I have, and the new blurb doesn’t capture me. Looks like another book I grabbed just because it was free.
Verdict: Goes
The Watcher (Bigler County #1) by Jo Robertson — Eh…not really my go-to genre, and if I’m going to venture into it, I’ll wait for something that grabs me more.
Verdict: Goes
The Vampire Shrink (Kismet Knight, Ph.D., Vampire Psychologist #1) by Lynda Hilburn — OK, this blurb intrigued me…but then I went and read some reviews, and I don’t know…I’m trying to be really choosy, and I don’t think it intrigued me enough to beat out the 100s of other books I have vying for my attention.
Verdict: Goes
Into the Shadows (Into the Shadows #1) by Karly Kirkpatrick — There wasn’t much to that blurb, and the reviews seem on the lower end.
Verdict: Goes
Fun & Games (Charlie Hardie #1) by Duane Swierczynski — It sounds fun, but not my jam.
Verdict: Goes
Starcrossed: Perigee (Starcrossed #1) by Tracey Lee Campbell — OK, even though this sounds like most books I read in 2011, I was intrigued enough I was going to keep this one. But then I noticed that there are no other books, even though the other answered a question saying she was working on it 5 years ago…uh oh. I don’t think I want to get invested in something that may never get finished.
Verdict: Goes
A Chance for Charity (The Immortal Ones #1) by S.L. Baum — OK, so I have a few friends who’ve apparently enjoyed this one…BUT they enjoyed it like 6+ years ago, and that means nothing anymore. I thought it sounded okay, but then I checked out the blurb on Amazon and her name changes IN THE BLURB. And now I feel like one of those people who uses any excuse to break up with a boyfriend, like their nose whistles while they eat…but that’s how ruthless I’ve become.
Verdict: Goes
Cover Me (Elite Force #1) by Catherine Mann — You know what? I enjoy a good romantic suspense every once in awhile, and trapped in a cave in a snowstorm?? Yes! I mean, why not?
Verdict: Stays
Falling Under by Danielle Younge-Ullman — I will admit, I remember nabbing this one based purely on the cover…it’s just interesting. And while this is HIGHLY reviewed, I’m not sure I need another super emotional book in my life…I have plenty of favourite authors that already give me that.
I deleted all my Melissa Foster books when I did this a couple of years ago. I found I have moved on from her books.
