Down The TBR Hole is a meme created by Lia @ Lost in a Story that revolves around cleansing your TBR of all those books you’re never going to read and sort through it all to know what’s actually on there.
It works like this:
- Go to your goodreads to-read shelf.
- Order on ascending date added.
- Take the first 5 (or 10 (or even more!) if you’re feeling adventurous) books. Of course, if you do this weekly, you start where you left off the last time.
- Read the synopses of the books
- Decide: keep it or should it go?
This is all Lillian @Mom With a Reading Problem‘s fault. She started doing this, and I couldn’t help but look at my Kindle, and all the titles that I don’t even remember what they’re about, and I just figured maybe I should start the CLEANSE. It’s about the only CLEANSE you’ll see me participate in. I’m going to be focussing entirely on my Kindle book problem at the moment, since it’s the craziest (and it’s what features most prominently in my Goodreads TBR). And I’ve decided if a book goes, then I’m deleting it from my Kindle cloud library too — GONE! Poof! JUST DO IT! My internal hoarder is screaming right now.
As of writing this post, my current Goodreads TBR shelf has 2083 books on it. No, that’s not a typo. You see why this meme might be good for me. I’ve also decided that if I get rid of the first book in a series, and I have other books in that series, I’m going to get rid of them at the same time instead of waiting until they show up.
Life of Pi by Yann Martel — I probably got this because of all the rave reviews…but deep down I’m a hipster, and that would be the only reason I would check this book out. It doesn’t actually interest me, it’s not my style.
Verdict: Goes
Relatively Famous by Jessica Park — I find Ms. Park can occasionally not quite hit with me, and that long blurb just isn’t that compelling for me. Oh yeah, and I’m trying to be ruthless.
Verdict: Goes
Living Violet (The Cambion Chronicles #1) by Jaime Reed — A book I probably would have enjoyed back in 2012, but now? It just doesn’t pull me in.
Verdict: Goes
PineLight (PineLight #1) by Jillian Peery — I’m not even going to read the blurb. The book is no longer available in Kindle, including book 2. I don’t need to start something and possibly enjoy it just to not have an ending.
Verdict: Goes
Whirl (Ondine Quartet #1) by Emma Raveling — This is another one of those I probably would have enjoyed it 8 years ago, but I have more compelling options now.
Verdict: Goes
Ruin by N.M. Martinez — Again, it sounds okay but realistically will I get to it? Probably not.
Verdict: Goes
Run (The Hunted #1) by Patti Larsen — I think I tried starting this one once, but just wasn’t my thing.
Verdict: Goes
In Dreams (The Dream #1) by J. Sterling — I still haven’t read anything by Ms. Sterling, but a friend’s review suggests I should try something newer and not her debut. Also, the blurb is only meh for me.
Verdict: Goes
Power of the Moon (Power of the Moon #1) by Tina Carreiro — Eh…again, being ruthless.
Verdict: Goes
Vision (Vision #1) by Beth Elisa Harris — Oh look, another book that’s no longer available on Kindle (nor is the rest of the trilogy). That’s a nope from me.
Dear Heart, I Hate You is my favorite J. Sterling book. I would recommend that one.
I took Life of Pi off my list a couple years ago. I tried to start it, but couldn’t get into it.
