Down The TBR Hole is a meme created by Lia @ Lost in a Story that revolves around cleansing your TBR of all those books you’re never going to read and sort through it all to know what’s actually on there.
It works like this:
- Go to your goodreads to-read shelf.
- Order on ascending date added.
- Take the first 5 (or 10 (or even more!) if you’re feeling adventurous) books. Of course, if you do this weekly, you start where you left off the last time.
- Read the synopses of the books
- Decide: keep it or should it go?
This is all Lillian @Mom With a Reading Problem‘s fault. She started doing this, and I couldn’t help but look at my Kindle, and all the titles that I don’t even remember what they’re about, and I just figured maybe I should start the CLEANSE. It’s about the only CLEANSE you’ll see me participate in. I’m going to be focussing entirely on my Kindle book problem at the moment, since it’s the craziest (and it’s what features most prominently in my Goodreads TBR). And I’ve decided if a book goes, then I’m deleting it from my Kindle cloud library too — GONE! Poof! JUST DO IT! My internal hoarder is screaming right now.
As of writing this post, my current Goodreads TBR shelf has 2023 books on it. No, that’s not a typo. You see why this meme might be good for me. I’ve also decided that if I get rid of the first book in a series, and I have other books in that series, I’m going to get rid of them at the same time instead of waiting until they show up.
It’s HARLEQUIN week!! I’ve bought some Harlequins from Amazon of course, but honestly? I’ve gotten a lot more of them from the Harlequin website. When I first got my Kindle, Harlequins were the majority of what I read — I had yet to discover the world of Indie authors. So I bought quite a few ebooks. And didn’t get to them. So I really need to cull the pile. Especially because I am an entirely different person than I was 9 years ago, and I know some of these just aren’t going to work for me anymore. BUT, I have great nostalgia for my Harlequin reading days, so I predict this is going to be hard. I added a WHOLE bunch at a time on Goodreads, so I’m going to go through all the ones I added on February 6th, 2012 in this edition — probably around 30-40. There will be more Harlequin weeks coming up.
Tailspin by Cara Summers — I remember enjoying this author, but I’m trying to only keep the ones that are sucking me in and not letting me go…and this one is just okay.
Verdict: Goes
Soldier on Her Doorstep (Heroes Come Home #1) by Soraya Lane — The blurb sounds cute, but I’ve never been as interested in the Romance line, since I like at least a little bit of heat.
Verdict: Goes
The Army Ranger’s Return (Heroes Come Home #2) by Soraya Lane — Same as above.
Verdict: Goes
Second Time Lucky (Spring Break #1) by Debbi Rawlins — Meh….
Verdict: Goes
Delicious Do-Over (Spring Break #2) by Debbi Rawlins — And another meh…
Verdict: Goes
Best Man for the Job by Meredith Fletcher — Annnndddd another meh….
Verdict: Goes
By Invitation Only anthology by Lori Wilde, Wendy Etherington, Jillian Burns — The middle one sounds cute, but I’m just not wow, you know?
Verdict: Goes
With a Little Help (Make Me a Match #1) by Valerie Parv — I think I thought this was a different author, and a spin off series from that. Or at least that’s what I thought now. And since it’s not, well….
Verdict: Goes
Should’ve Been a Cowboy (Sons of Chance #4) by Vicki Lewis Thompson — I think I originally had the first few books in this series in paperback, but I can’t remember whether I read them. I don’t have them anymore, so I’m okay letting this go.
Verdict: Goes
Cowboy Up (Sons of Chance #5) by Vicki Lewis Thompson — Same as above.
Verdict: Goes
Desi’s Rescue (Sister’s of the Mountain #2) by Ruth Wind — *snort* Well I just read the lone review on Amazon and it managed to spoil a bunch. Sounds okay, but not wow.
Verdict: Goes
Switch by Megan Hart — Ah, back when I first got comfortable reading erotica because of my precious Kindle. I’m not sure this one is what I’m looking for, especially after skimming some reviews.
Verdict: Goes
The Challenge by Megan Hart — Again, this just doesn’t feel like my thing, especially 2020 Lenore.
Verdict: Goes
Everything Changes (Alex Kennedy #1.5) by Megan Hart — This one is different. I read the first book in this “series’…I actually have the *paperback*. And while it was…controversial, it was also hot, and I remember feeling for Alex. So I’m probably going to need to reread that, but I’m too curious to let this one go.
Verdict: Stays
The Prodigal Bride (The Bancroft Brides #3) by Beth Cornelison — Meh.
Verdict: Goes
SEALed with a Kiss (SEAL #2) by Jill Monroe — I’m very waffly on a few of these…but waffly is not wow.
Verdict: Goes
Soldier’s Night Mission (H.O.T. Watch #5) by Cindy Dees — OK, I don’t even need to read this blurb. I was obsessed with a few of Ms. Dees series, and IIRC this is part of a spin-off one. I really should reread and see if it holds up. But for now it’s staying.
Verdict: Stays
Long Slow Burn (Checking E-Males #2) by Isabel Sharpe — You know what? Fuck it. I love the whole roommates to lovers thing, so this one stays for now.
Verdict: Stays
Into the Night by Kate Hoffmann — I read a bit of a spoiler, and this one is definitely a nope for me.
Verdict: Goes
Her Last Temptation by Leslie Kelly — Oooo, this one is tough. I love the unrequited crush stuff. But I’m not as interested as in others.
Verdict: Goes
Heat of the Moment (It Takes a Hero #2) by Karen Foley — Ehhh…not enough.
Verdict: Goes
Forbidden: The Sheikh’s Virgin (Dark-Hearted Desert Men #3, The Royal House of Karedes #11) by Trish Morey — Another from that series, still no interest.
Verdict: Goes
Flora’s Defiance (Secretly Pregnant…Conveniently Wed #2) by Lynne Graham — I used to really enjoy Ms. Graham, but I have a feeling she’s going to be another one that doesn’t work for 2020 Lenore.
Verdict: Goes
Danger in the Desert (Code Name: Danger #16) by Merline Lovelace — *shrugs* I don’t even know what attracted me in the first place.
Verdict: Goes
The Player (Men Out of Uniform #1) by Rhonda Nelson — It looks like I got the first 3 books in this series…had I read a later book? Honestly, I don’t remember anymore. And I’m not that sucked in that I feel compelled to keep them.
Verdict: Goes
The Specialist (Men Out of Uniform #2) by Rhonda Nelson — See above.
Verdict: Goes
The Maverick (Men Out of Uniform #3) by Rhonda Nelson — See above.
Verdict: Goes
My Front Page Scandal (The Martini Dares #2) by Carrie Alexander — Eh…I feel like I read one of the books in this series, but it was so long ago, I’m definitely not invested.
Verdict: Goes
Running Scared (Last Chance Heroes #1) by Linda Winstead Jones — Now this, on the other hand, I know I was reading. I even have a few of the books in paperback. So I’ll be keeping this for now until I can see if it’s still a series I’ll enjoy.
Verdict: Stays
All or Nothing by Debbi Rawlins — Eh.
Verdict: Goes
Seven Days to Forever (Eagle Squadron #2) by Ingrid Weaver — Another series I have a few in paperback for, and I think I might have been reading. So I’ll keep for now.
Verdict: Stays
The Bare Facts by Karen Anders — Eh, doesn’t grab me.
Verdict: Goes
Body Contact by Rebecca York — Sounds steamy, but I’m being ruthless.
Verdict: Goes
It Must Have Been the Mistletoe… by Kate Hoffmann, Rhonda Nelson, & Tawny Weber — Honestly? I’m willing to be a lot more lax for Christmas books.
Verdict: Stays
‘Tis the Season by Carole Mortimer, Alison Roberts & Natalie Anderson — But not that lax… 😛 I’m mostly only interested in the last one, and that’s not a good enough reason.
Verdict: Goes
Accidental Heiress by Nancy Robards Thompson — Meh.
Verdict: Goes
Once Upon a Proposal (The Hunt for Cinderella #5) by Allison Leigh — I thought maybe I’d read part of this series, but none of them sound familiar. It could be okay, but I don’t need more books to read.
Verdict: Goes
Once Upon a Christmas Eve (The Hunt for Cinderella #6) by Christine Flynn — Same as above.
This is a huge dump! I love it! I bet you feel a lot lighter now….or maybe your Kindle book shelf does.
