Down The TBR Hole is a meme created by Lia @ Lost in a Story that revolves around cleansing your TBR of all those books you’re never going to read and sort through it all to know what’s actually on there.
It works like this:
- Go to your goodreads to-read shelf.
- Order on ascending date added.
- Take the first 5 (or 10 (or even more!) if you’re feeling adventurous) books. Of course, if you do this weekly, you start where you left off the last time.
- Read the synopses of the books
- Decide: keep it or should it go?
This is all Lillian @Mom With a Reading Problem‘s fault. She started doing this, and I couldn’t help but look at my Kindle, and all the titles that I don’t even remember what they’re about, and I just figured maybe I should start the CLEANSE. It’s about the only CLEANSE you’ll see me participate in. I’m going to be focussing entirely on my Kindle book problem at the moment, since it’s the craziest (and it’s what features most prominently in my Goodreads TBR). And I’ve decided if a book goes, then I’m deleting it from my Kindle cloud library too — GONE! Poof! JUST DO IT! My internal hoarder is screaming right now.
As of writing this post, my current Goodreads TBR shelf has 1930 books on it. No, that’s not a typo. You see why this meme might be good for me. I’ve also decided that if I get rid of the first book in a series, and I have other books in that series, I’m going to get rid of them at the same time instead of waiting until they show up.
Ignition (Ignition Trilogy #1) by Ezra Linehan-Clodfelter — Meh.
Verdict: Goes
Past Lives #1: Rachel (Past Lives #1) by Stephanie Abbott — Didn’t even read the blurb, it’s no longer available on Amazon and there are no other books by this author.
Verdict: Goes
The Gods Among Us (The Divine Masquerade #1) by D.C. Belton — Eh…could be good, but I’m being ruthless.
Verdict: Goes
Demons of the Rich and Famous (Caden Butcher #1) by Tawny Stokes — I was only so-so on the blurb, but then the reviews intrigued me. But THEN I realized it’s book 1 of a series with no book 2, and I’ve read another seemingly book 1 by this author that has no book 2, and that’s gonna be a nope.
Verdict: Goes
The False Prince (Ascendance #1) by Jennifer A. Nielsen — I can dig it! I remember this blurb, and I figure if I can still remember a blurb 9 years later, it’s worth giving it a shot.
Verdict: Stays
Ashfall (Ashfall #1) by Mike Mullin — Same with this one actually…I’m still intrigued.
Verdict: Stays
Taking Chances by Loni Flowers — Meh.
Verdict: Goes
Fractured Moon (Aurelia Fridell #1) by E.R. Pierce — Penname changed to Ryanne Hawk…but still not interested.
Verdict: Goes
Fire Baptized (Santeria Habitat #1) by Kenya Wright — 1) diverse/ownvoices; 2) sounds cool and unique; 3) the heroine’s name is Lanore. Sold.
Verdict: Stays
Demons at Deadnight (Divinicus Nex Chronicles #1) by A & E Kirk — Carla freaking LOVED this book/series (see her review here), and that’s good enough for me.
I almost bought The False Prince for my daughter the other day. If you end up liking it, I will have to do that!
