Down The TBR Hole is a meme created by Lia @ Lost in a Story that revolves around cleansing your TBR of all those books you’re never going to read and sort through it all to know what’s actually on there.
It works like this:
- Go to your goodreads to-read shelf.
- Order on ascending date added.
- Take the first 5 (or 10 (or even more!) if you’re feeling adventurous) books. Of course, if you do this weekly, you start where you left off the last time.
- Read the synopses of the books
- Decide: keep it or should it go?
This is all Lillian @Mom With a Reading Problem‘s fault. She started doing this, and I couldn’t help but look at my Kindle, and all the titles that I don’t even remember what they’re about, and I just figured maybe I should start the CLEANSE. It’s about the only CLEANSE you’ll see me participate in. I’m going to be focussing entirely on my Kindle book problem at the moment, since it’s the craziest (and it’s what features most prominently in my Goodreads TBR). And I’ve decided if a book goes, then I’m deleting it from my Kindle cloud library too — GONE! Poof! JUST DO IT! My internal hoarder is screaming right now.
As of writing this post, my current Goodreads TBR shelf has 1843 books on it. No, that’s not a typo. You see why this meme might be good for me. I’ve also decided that if I get rid of the first book in a series, and I have other books in that series, I’m going to get rid of them at the same time instead of waiting until they show up.
A Soul for Trouble (Soulbearer #1) by Crista McHugh — I remember really enjoying another book by this author, though the series was never completed. Since I enjoy the apparent snark in the blurb, and at least this series looks finished, I’ll keep for now.
Verdict: Stays
Jordyn (A Daemon Hunter #1) by Tiffany King — OK, so I generally really enjoy books by this author. And the series appears complete. AND it’s a spin off of another series of hers I loved a LONG time ago. I might reread that series and see if it still works for me…and I’ll keep this one for now.
Verdict: Stays
Darkride (Darkride Chronicles #1) by Laura Bradley Rede — Eh, doesn’t pull me in.
Verdict: Goes
Flight (The Crescent Chronicles #1) by Alyssa Rose Ivy — I’m wishy washy, and Curly Carla was only meh on her reread, so I’m letting it go.
Verdict: Goes
The Annihilation of Foreverland (Foreverland #1) by Tony Bertauski — Could be interesting, but if I’m being real I won’t get to it.
Verdict: Goes
Reclaimed by Sarah Guillory — *snort* I was intrigued by “the twist” that every review talked about, so I tried looking for spoilers…because that’s really all I wanted to know. So yeah, it’s going.
Verdict: Goes
Love at First Date (Better Date Than Never #1) by Susan Hatler — It sounds like a sweet story, but I have others that I’m more curious about (and not enough time for them all).
Verdict: Goes
One (One Universe #1) by Leigh Ann Kopans — I remember loving this cover and being very intrigued by the premise. I’m still pretty intrigued. The reviews seem to be mixed, but that might be for people who don’t like things that I do like. And since there’s only one other book in the series, it’s not a huge investment, so I’m keeping for now.
Verdict: Stays
Awaken (Awaken Series #1) by Jaime Guerard — Meh.
Verdict: Goes
Ruining Me (Ruining #1) by Nicole Reed — A love square? And the blurb’s not pulling me in…so yeah, no.
I’ve read some Alyssa Rose Ivy that I enjoyed, but not her paranormal stuff. I would probably dump it, too.
I actually went back through my Kindle and dumped some more books yesterday. I got ride of 3 Abbi Glines and a couple more I can’t remember. I ended up going through and putting my remaining books in an Excel spreadsheet. I have like 63 books on there to read now. I think I’m going to try to read them in between ARCs and new releases. Maybe I can get that number down to 0 in a few years. LOL. It’s taken me a few years to get down to 63 and that number actually feels doable!
I cannot even fathom having less than 100 books…*snort* OBVIOUSLY. I have a problem. đŸ˜‰
Well, I spent a lot of time over the past few years looking up blurbs and reviews. That helped. đŸ˜‰
Yeah, I’m much better these days. These books I’m going through are way back in early 2013!
I’ve been reading ones I bought in 2015, but some were written that far back.
