Down The TBR Hole is a meme created by Lia @ Lost in a Story that revolves around cleansing your TBR of all those books you’re never going to read and sort through it all to know what’s actually on there.
It works like this:
- Go to your goodreads to-read shelf.
- Order on ascending date added.
- Take the first 5 (or 10 (or even more!) if you’re feeling adventurous) books. Of course, if you do this weekly, you start where you left off the last time.
- Read the synopses of the books
- Decide: keep it or should it go?
This is all Lillian @Mom With a Reading Problem‘s fault. She started doing this, and I couldn’t help but look at my Kindle, and all the titles that I don’t even remember what they’re about, and I just figured maybe I should start the CLEANSE. It’s about the only CLEANSE you’ll see me participate in. I’m going to be focussing entirely on my Kindle book problem at the moment, since it’s the craziest (and it’s what features most prominently in my Goodreads TBR). And I’ve decided if a book goes, then I’m deleting it from my Kindle cloud library too — GONE! Poof! JUST DO IT! My internal hoarder is screaming right now.
As of writing this post, my current Goodreads TBR shelf has 1836 books on it. No, that’s not a typo. You see why this meme might be good for me. I’ve also decided that if I get rid of the first book in a series, and I have other books in that series, I’m going to get rid of them at the same time instead of waiting until they show up.
Real (Real #1) by Katy Evans — I think sometimes I just get books because everyone keeps talking about them…but the blurb really doesn’t draw me in enough.
Verdict: Goes
Everything Changes by Shey Stahl — I have this strange habit of if I can’t find the book on Amazon anymore, I need to try to figure out why. That’s what happened with this book (and the next). And you know what I found?? Apparently (allegedly?) this author plagiarized this book, the one just below, and another book I don’t have from fanfics. Ew. Sure, it might not be true, but they were pulled almost 8 years ago, so that doesn’t look great. No brainer, goes.
Verdict: Goes
Waiting for You (Waiting for You #1) by Shey Stahl — See above.
Verdict: Goes
Scandalous 2 (Scandalous #2) by H.M. Ward — Apparently I mostly enjoyed the first book, but I remember going back and trying to finish other series by this author and being rather disappointed, so I’m not going to bother with this one. Huh, my cloud thinks I’ve read it. Ah well, obviously didn’t live an impression.
Verdict: Goes
None of the Regular Rules by Erin Downing — Oooo, this is a toughie. It sounds cute and interesting. But if I’m being really honest, I probably will keep passing it over. So I’mma be ruthless.
Verdict: Goes
Fall From Love by Heather London — Can I be honest? I can see this book being good by forgettable…even the blurb feels that way. So I’mma let it go.
Verdict: Goes
Secret for a Song by S.K. Falls — Well, this one doesn’t appear to be available anymore (nor any of the books by this author)…but I always *remember* this book/blurb. It’s been on my mental health list for diversity for quite awhile. It could be terrible, but I just can’t let it go without trying.
Verdict: Stays
Sometimes Never (Sometimes Never #1) by Cheryl McIntyre — I think 2013 Lenore would have loved this book. I think 2021 Lenore has too many choices. Also, I apparently have the 3rd book, so I’ll say goodbye to that too.
Verdict: Goes
Defect by Ryann Kerekes — Apparently the audiobook is still available, but that’s it. Could be interesting, but not feeling it enough.
Verdict: Goes
Crossing the Line (Pushing the Limits #1.1) by Katie McGarry — I don’t really remember any of the characters from the first book, but I feel like I might actually get back to this series, so I’m keeping for now.
Thank goodness you saved that Katie McGarry book! I loved that series.
