Down The TBR Hole is a meme created by Lia @ Lost in a Story that revolves around cleansing your TBR of all those books you’re never going to read and sort through it all to know what’s actually on there.
It works like this:
- Go to your goodreads to-read shelf.
- Order on ascending date added.
- Take the first 5 (or 10 (or even more!) if you’re feeling adventurous) books. Of course, if you do this weekly, you start where you left off the last time.
- Read the synopses of the books
- Decide: keep it or should it go?
This is all Lillian @Mom With a Reading Problem‘s fault. She started doing this, and I couldn’t help but look at my Kindle, and all the titles that I don’t even remember what they’re about, and I just figured maybe I should start the CLEANSE. It’s about the only CLEANSE you’ll see me participate in. I’m going to be focussing entirely on my Kindle book problem at the moment, since it’s the craziest (and it’s what features most prominently in my Goodreads TBR). And I’ve decided if a book goes, then I’m deleting it from my Kindle cloud library too — GONE! Poof! JUST DO IT! My internal hoarder is screaming right now.
ETA: OK, if I’m truly waffling over one of them, I’m giving you all like a couple days to convince me otherwise before I delete them. So speak now! (This is your fault Ashley)
As of writing this post, my current Goodreads TBR shelf has 1814 books on it. No, that’s not a typo. You see why this meme might be good for me. I’ve also decided that if I get rid of the first book in a series, and I have other books in that series, I’m going to get rid of them at the same time instead of waiting until they show up.
Jane’s Melody (Jane’s Melody #1) by Ryan Winfield — Could be good, but I’m just not that interested…especially given there’s a book 2.
Verdict: Goes
Through Glass (Through Glass #1) by Rebecca Ethington — Now titled Dark. *sigh* I can’t decide with Ms. Ethington…I tried finishing Imdalind, and it wasn’t quite working for me. But I have a friend who loved this one. BUT then I’ll have to make Amazon force update this one for me, b/c I don’t know how much has changed in the updated versions…and that’s so annoying (fix this Amazon). But fine, I’ll keep it for now.
Verdict: Stays
Love of Truth by C.T. Oliver — A cliffhanger and there’s no book 2? Yeah no.
Verdict: Goes
Relentless (Shattered Hearts #2) by Cassia Leo — I wasn’t that interested, but then I read some reviews, and I think I’m making the right decision letting this go…I have a feeling it would hit my buttons. I also have book 1, so I’m letting them both go.
Verdict: Goes
A Moment (Moments #1) by Marie Hall — Hmmm…not that interested; it’s not a standalone; I saw a review mention OW/OM stuff. Yeah, that’s enough to say goodbye, regardless of the great reviews from friends. And if I truly change my mind, apparently it’s in a box set that I haven’t gotten to yet. 😛
Verdict: Goes
The Raven Boys (The Ravel Cycle #1) by Maggie Stiefvater — Yeah, I’ve heard great things and I’ve been intrigued for awhile. I’m not even going to reread the blurb, I know I want to at least try this.
Verdict: Stays
Collide (Collide #1) by Gail McHugh — There was a whole schwakload of books like this very popular at the time this came out, and I probably jumped on the bandwagon. But, I don’t think it’s my scene. Couple that with a cliffhanger? Meh.
Verdict: Goes
Hunting by Andrea K. Höst — I read one book by this author, and she really surprised me (it was so different from what I normally read). I don’t know if that will still hold true, but I’m willing to keep this around for now.
Verdict: Stays
Love Realized (Real Love #1) by Melanie Codina — Meh.
Verdict: Goes
Sweet Thing (Sweet Thing #1) by Renée Carlino — This is another one of those ones that’s wildly popular, and every time the author is attending a book event I’m going to, I put it on the list and promptly avoid it. So I’m going to take the hint. Also, unlikable heroine is not a great seller for me. BUT since I’m a bit waffly, I won’t delete right away in case anyone has a strong argument.
I used to want to read Collide because I liked another book she wrote. I kind of forgot about it and now I probably won’t read it either. I’m glad you’re keeping The Raven Boys.
