Down The TBR Hole is a meme created by Lia @ Lost in a Story that revolves around cleansing your TBR of all those books you’re never going to read and sort through it all to know what’s actually on there.
It works like this:
- Go to your goodreads to-read shelf.
- Order on ascending date added.
- Take the first 5 (or 10 (or even more!) if you’re feeling adventurous) books. Of course, if you do this weekly, you start where you left off the last time.
- Read the synopses of the books
- Decide: keep it or should it go?
This is all Lillian @Mom With a Reading Problem‘s fault. She started doing this, and I couldn’t help but look at my Kindle, and all the titles that I don’t even remember what they’re about, and I just figured maybe I should start the CLEANSE. It’s about the only CLEANSE you’ll see me participate in. I’m going to be focussing entirely on my Kindle book problem at the moment, since it’s the craziest (and it’s what features most prominently in my Goodreads TBR). And I’ve decided if a book goes, then I’m deleting it from my Kindle cloud library too — GONE! Poof! JUST DO IT! My internal hoarder is screaming right now.
ETA: OK, if I’m truly waffling over one of them, I’m giving you all like a couple days to convince me otherwise before I delete them. So speak now! (This is your fault Ashley)
As of writing this post, my current Goodreads TBR shelf has 1809 books on it. No, that’s not a typo. You see why this meme might be good for me. I’ve also decided that if I get rid of the first book in a series, and I have other books in that series, I’m going to get rid of them at the same time instead of waiting until they show up.
Stitch (Stitch Trilogy #1) by Samantha Durante — Not without potential, but I’m not that drawn in.
Verdict: Goes
Anna Dressed in Blood (Anna #1) by Kendare Blake — I really thought I was going to keep this one. I remember being intrigued and so many people I follow enjoyed it. But if I’m being honest, I can totally see myself putting it off over and over again. I think I’d rather save room for newer books. I might not delete right away in case anyone decides to argue with me about it though.
Verdict: Goes
Crewel (Crewel World #1) by Gennifer Albin — Another one I remember and was sure I’d keep, but I don’t know…I’m just not blown away.
Verdict: Goes
Article 5 (Article 5 #1) by Kristen Simmons — Eh…apparently I was in a bit of a dystopian phase. I’d rather read newer stuff, especially if it’s a series and the books are $10+.
Verdict: Goes
The Obsidian Blade (The Klaatu Diskos #1) by Pete Hautman — Dude, I was totally intrigued and thinking about giving it a shot, but then read reviews about the time travel being confusing (which I don’t handle well), and apparently some Christian overtones. Yeah, no.
Verdict: Goes
Hex Hall (Hex Hall #1) by Rachel Hawkins — It sounds cute and fun, and bonus the rest of the series is at my library. So it stays for now.
Verdict: Stays
Butter by Erin Jade Lange — I think I was probably morbidly fascinated in 2013. Now, I’m just disturbed. I can’t imagine there isn’t some amount of fat shaming in this, and I just don’t think I’m willing to risk it.
Verdict: Goes
False Memory (False Memory #1) by Dan Krokos — A trilogy and they’re no longer available in ebook? Yeah, I’m not even going to read the blurb.
Verdict: Goes
The Accidental Assassin (The Assassins #1) by Nichole Chase — I remember being really excited when this one first came out, but now I’m feeling fairly ambivalent. Also, it claims it’s part of a series, but that fell through…so do I want to invest? I’m going with no, though it pains me.
Verdict: Goes
Falling Into Us (Falling #2) by Jasinda Wilder — The first book ripped my fucking heart out and resulted in me having to move to the guest bedroom because I couldn’t stop crying…and I always intended to read more because while it was complete, I was curious. So this stays for now, though who knows if I’ll still feel the same.
So, random question – do you know if Down the TBR Hole is still going? I checked out the link and it ends somewhere in 2017, but it’s a meme I’d really like to join. Thanks!!
-Megan @ Bookstacks & Golden Moms
I don’t think anyone is hosting it anymore, which is a bummer. I’m surprised someone hasn’t picked it up, but I don’t have time to do it myself. I hope you join anyways!
[…] to Lenore @ Celebrity Readers for dropping this on my to-do list 🙂 I’ve already decided to create my own challenge/meme […]
The only one I’ve read is Hex Hall. Read the whole series and enjoyed it.
Yay! Then I’m glad I kept it!
I read Falling Into Us… It started out strong for me, but then kind of lost me at one point. I gave it 3 stars.
