Down The TBR Hole is a meme created by Lia @ Lost in a Story that revolves around cleansing your TBR of all those books you’re never going to read and sort through it all to know what’s actually on there.

It works like this:

  • Go to your goodreads to-read shelf.
  • Order on ascending date added.
  • Take the first 5 (or 10 (or even more!) if youre feeling adventurous) books. Of course, if you do this weekly, you start where you left off the last time.
  • Read the synopses of the books
  • Decide: keep it or should it go?

This is all Lillian @Mom With a Reading Problem‘s fault.  She started doing this, and I couldn’t help but look at my Kindle, and all the titles that I don’t even remember what they’re about, and I just figured maybe I should start the CLEANSE.  It’s about the only CLEANSE you’ll see me participate in.  I’m going to be focussing entirely on my Kindle book problem at the moment, since it’s the craziest (and it’s what features most prominently in my Goodreads TBR).  And I’ve decided if a book goes, then I’m deleting it from my Kindle cloud library too — GONE!  Poof!  JUST DO IT!  My internal hoarder is screaming right now.

ETA: OK, if I’m truly waffling over one of them, I’m giving you all like a couple days to convince me otherwise before I delete them. So speak now! (This is your fault Ashley)

As of writing this post, my current Goodreads TBR shelf has 1799 books on it.  No, that’s not a typo.  You see why this meme might be good for me.  I’ve also decided that if I get rid of the first book in a series, and I have other books in that series, I’m going to get rid of them at the same time instead of waiting until they show up.

Touch of Frost (Mythos Academy #1) by Jennifer Estep — Could be fun, but since there are so many academy books these days, I think I’d rather try something newer.

Verdict: Goes

Searching for Beautiful by Nyrae Dawn — Nyrae Dawn? Oh yeah, stays. Don’t even need to read the blurb, though I remember being intrigued by this one from the first.

Verdict: Stays

Her Favorite Temptation (Matthews Sisters #1) by Sarah Mayberry — Sarah Mayberry? Stays. But also, I think I read this one, but before Goodreads and reviewing…so I need to reread and finally read the other Matthews sister.

Verdict: Stays

Lexi, Baby (This Can’t Be Happening #1) by Lynda LeeAnne — Yeah no.

Verdict: Goes

Price of a Kiss (Forbidden Men #1) by Linda Kage — Damn, I’m torn. I was sure this was a goes from the first few lines (sounded like typically early indie NA), but then I got to the end of the blurb and I was intrigued. And then I saw a bunch of readers I follow had loved it (which is probably why I got it in the first place). BUT. But. I did see one mention of shaming sex work, and that could be a bummer. Ah fuck it, I’ll keep it for now.

Verdict: Stays

Daughter of Smoke & Bone (Daughter of Smoke & Bone #1) by Laini Taylor — This is another one of those books that was super popular, and I got intrigued, but never got around to it. Honestly, the blurb is still hella intriguing, so it stays for now.

Verdict: Stays

Just My Luck (Shamrock Falls #3) by Kelley Vitollo — I didn’t even read the blurb. I kept book 2 a few weeks ago, and the same goes for this for now.

Verdict: Stays

The Lost Girl by Sangu Mandanna — I’ve had this one on the list for diversity a few times, but I always pass over it. It’s an intriguing concept, but I have a feeling it would be a book I feel like I *should* read, instead of actually wanting to read it.

Verdict: Goes

The Vicious Deep (The Vicious Deep #1) by Zoraida Córdova — I probably would have kept this one, but since it appears to be unpublished, AND a trilogy, well I don’t want to get invested. Still, bummer.

Verdict: Goes

Before I Fall by Lauren Oliver — This book has amazing reviews. And I’m pretty sure it’s the first book I ever DNF’d. I mean, I couldn’t DNF at the time, so I stuck it in a collection called “abandoned”. So, do I give it another try all these years later? Or let it go because there are a gagillion other books for me out there…I’m going with the latter.

Verdict: Goes

  1. I enjoyed Before I Fall, but I wouldn’t say it’s a must read. I loved Daughter of Smoke & Bone up until the twist, but that’s just me. Everyone else seems to love it. I think it’s a good one to keep.

  2. It’s great you are doing this but I would really go down the rabbit hole and work on it constantly until I finished. But I could stand to work on some of these. I read a Touch of Frost recently and enjoyed it. But it’s YA and not a must read.
