Down The TBR Hole is a meme created by Lia @ Lost in a Story that revolves around cleansing your TBR of all those books you’re never going to read and sort through it all to know what’s actually on there.
It works like this:
- Go to your goodreads to-read shelf.
- Order on ascending date added.
- Take the first 5 (or 10 (or even more!) if you’re feeling adventurous) books. Of course, if you do this weekly, you start where you left off the last time.
- Read the synopses of the books
- Decide: keep it or should it go?
This is all Lillian @Mom With a Reading Problem‘s fault. She started doing this, and I couldn’t help but look at my Kindle, and all the titles that I don’t even remember what they’re about, and I just figured maybe I should start the CLEANSE. It’s about the only CLEANSE you’ll see me participate in. I’m going to be focussing entirely on my Kindle book problem at the moment, since it’s the craziest (and it’s what features most prominently in my Goodreads TBR). And I’ve decided if a book goes, then I’m deleting it from my Kindle cloud library too — GONE! Poof! JUST DO IT! My internal hoarder is screaming right now.
ETA: OK, if I’m truly waffling over one of them, I’m giving you all like a couple days to convince me otherwise before I delete them. So speak now! (This is your fault Ashley)
As of writing this post, my current Goodreads TBR shelf has 1781 books on it. No, that’s not a typo. You see why this meme might be good for me. I’ve also decided that if I get rid of the first book in a series, and I have other books in that series, I’m going to get rid of them at the same time instead of waiting until they show up.
Wish I May (Splintered Hearts #2) by Lexi Ryan — OK, I know I got this one because I apparently really loved the first book. But I’m wondering if I *still* would, you know? I was trying to look through spoilers, and I think it’s possible I might not appreciate the first book as much…and I’d need to reread to appreciate this one. So I’m just going to cut my losses.
Verdict: Goes
Falling Stars (Thompson Sisters #1.5) by Charles Sheehan-Miles — I have always wanted to get back to this series, so this stays for sure.
Verdict: Stays
Selling Scarlett (Love Inc. #1) by Ella James — I can see why I was initially drawn to this, but it’s not pulling me in enough now.
Verdict: Goes
Taming Cross (Love Inc. #2) by Ella James — This one pulls me in more than book 1, but I don’t know if they’re total standalones. And I have lots of other books to occupy my time.
Verdict: Goes
Recklessly Royal (The Royals #2) by Nichole Chase — Another series I always meant to get back to, and still intend to.
Verdict: Stays
The Arrangement: The Ferro Family (The Arrangement #1) by H.M. Ward — I’ve tried quite a few stories by Ms. Ward, and I usually feel let down. So no need to start another.
Verdict: Goes
How I Lost You by Janet Gurtler — Yeah, it’s just not grabbing me.
Verdict: Goes
Her (Him & Her #2) by Carey Heywood — Oh look, another series I always intended to finish, and I’m determined! Maybe this year I’ll get to a few of these…*snort*.
Verdict: Stays
Choosing You (Jade #1) by Allie Everhart — Despite a friend really enjoying this book, I’m going to have to pass…some of the negative reviews list things that would unfortunately irk me as well. Plus, it’s an *8* book series all about the same heroine! I don’t have that kind of stamina and attention span.
Verdict: Goes
Beneath the Burn by Pam Godwin — Meh.
I haven’t read any of these. I applaud you for wanting to get back to so many series. I’m always afraid I won’t remember the characters. Haha!
You are doing a great job at this. I don’t really get rid of anything because I end up finding out I want to read it later for a variety of reasons.
