Down The TBR Hole is a meme created by Lia @ Lost in a Story that revolves around cleansing your TBR of all those books you’re never going to read and sort through it all to know what’s actually on there.
It works like this:
- Go to your goodreads to-read shelf.
- Order on ascending date added.
- Take the first 5 (or 10 (or even more!) if you’re feeling adventurous) books. Of course, if you do this weekly, you start where you left off the last time.
- Read the synopses of the books
- Decide: keep it or should it go?
This is all Lillian @Mom With a Reading Problem‘s fault. She started doing this, and I couldn’t help but look at my Kindle, and all the titles that I don’t even remember what they’re about, and I just figured maybe I should start the CLEANSE. It’s about the only CLEANSE you’ll see me participate in. I’m going to be focussing entirely on my Kindle book problem at the moment, since it’s the craziest (and it’s what features most prominently in my Goodreads TBR). And I’ve decided if a book goes, then I’m deleting it from my Kindle cloud library too — GONE! Poof! JUST DO IT! My internal hoarder is screaming right now.
ETA: OK, if I’m truly waffling over one of them, I’m giving you all like a couple days to convince me otherwise before I delete them. So speak now! (This is your fault Ashley)
As of writing this post, my current Goodreads TBR shelf has 1769 books on it. No, that’s not a typo. You see why this meme might be good for me. I’ve also decided that if I get rid of the first book in a series, and I have other books in that series, I’m going to get rid of them at the same time instead of waiting until they show up.
Poison Princess (The Arcana Chronicles #1) by Kresley Cole — I wasn’t that sucked in by the blurb, but then I saw some friends had rated it highly…but then I read comments in a DNF review, and it sounds like I would not appreciate the hero. I have too many other books on my TBR I’d rather read.
Verdict: Goes
Beautiful Disaster (Beautiful #1) by Jamie McGuire — I’d been thinking of ditching this book for awhile, because toxic relationship, etc. Way before I found out the author is not…well, spews some hateful stuff at times. That’s enough to cement the decision.
Verdict: Goes
Wide Spaces (Wide Awake #1.5) by Shelly Crane — I kept book 2 earlier, so I’m keeping this one too.
Verdict: Stays
Dirty London by Kelley York — Yup, still interested.
Verdict: Stays
When It Rains (Rains #1) by Lisa De Jong — I was curious, but wary, and then read some minor spoilers that just made me more intrigued. So it stays for now.
Verdict: Stays
The Ever After of Ella and Micha (The Secret #4) by Jessica Sorensen — Another series I’ve already made the decision to keep for now, so this one too.
Verdict: Stays
The Christmas Wedding Quilt by Emilie Richards, Janice Kay Johnson & Sarah Mayberry — Christmas anthology and one of the authors is Sarah Mayberry? Uh, keep.
Verdict: Stays
Unraveling (Unraveling #1) by Elizabeth Norris — I was on the fence, and that blurb just doesn’t pull me onto the stay side of the fence. OK, ruthless Lenore is ruthless!
Verdict: Goes
Fate (Fate #1) by Elizabeth Reyes — I will admit, I’m still intrigued.
Verdict: Stays
Tempest (Tempest #1) by Julie Cross — Well shit, I’m intrigued by this one too. And at least my library has the audiobooks if I do get sucked in.
This is a cool thing to do but I would not enjoy putting together the post and loading up all the graphics. Although for the last few years I load up the graphics for a freebie when I get it.

THANK GOODNESS YOU KEPT WHEN IT RAINS!!! I would have shouted unhappily at you if you dumped it. That book was good and so was the rest of the series. I’ve read a bunch more of her books now, too. I can’t wait to hear your thoughts on it. I also enjoyed Fate. And I dumped Beautiful Disaster for the same reasons. I never bought it, but it was on my TBR.
