Down The TBR Hole is a meme created by Lia @ Lost in a Story that revolves around cleansing your TBR of all those books you’re never going to read and sort through it all to know what’s actually on there.
It works like this:
- Go to your goodreads to-read shelf.
- Order on ascending date added.
- Take the first 5 (or 10 (or even more!) if you’re feeling adventurous) books. Of course, if you do this weekly, you start where you left off the last time.
- Read the synopses of the books
- Decide: keep it or should it go?
This is all Lillian @Mom With a Reading Problem‘s fault. She started doing this, and I couldn’t help but look at my Kindle, and all the titles that I don’t even remember what they’re about, and I just figured maybe I should start the CLEANSE. It’s about the only CLEANSE you’ll see me participate in. I’m going to be focussing entirely on my Kindle book problem at the moment, since it’s the craziest (and it’s what features most prominently in my Goodreads TBR). And I’ve decided if a book goes, then I’m deleting it from my Kindle cloud library too — GONE! Poof! JUST DO IT! My internal hoarder is screaming right now.
ETA: OK, if I’m truly waffling over one of them, I’m giving you all like a couple days to convince me otherwise before I delete them. So speak now! (This is your fault Ashley)
As of writing this post, my current Goodreads TBR shelf has 1754 books on it. No, that’s not a typo. You see why this meme might be good for me. I’ve also decided that if I get rid of the first book in a series, and I have other books in that series, I’m going to get rid of them at the same time instead of waiting until they show up.
Girl With Guitar (Kylie Ryans #1) by Caisey Quinn — I’ve read and enjoyed other books by this author, which is probably why I got this one. But the blurb is just not capturing me.
Verdict: Goes
Riptides (Silver Strand #4.5) by Steph Campbell & Liz Reinhardt — Another book in this series that I’m keeping for now. I got this and the next one in a box set.
Verdict: Stays
Drift (Silver Strand #5) by Steph Campbell & Liz Reinhardt — See previous.
Verdict: Stays
Stolen by Lucy Christopher — I will admit, there’s a part of me that’s still curious, like a bad car accident. But not as curious as I used to be, so I think I can let it go.
Verdict: Goes
The Kiss: An anthology about love and other close encounters by Various Authors — I didn’t remember this at all, but looking at the list of authors, I 100% got it for the Colleen Hoover short story. But I know NONE of the other authors, and I guess I’d rather just clean out my kindle.
Verdict: Goes
Romance Through the Ages by Various Authors — I probably got this for Running Barefoot by Amy Harmon, which I now own on its own…and the book below, which I could go either way on. So we’ll let it go.
Verdict: Goes
Masquerade by Janette Rallison — OK, this could be cute. But as it was the only book in an anthology that I was even remotely interested in, meh…
Verdict: Goes
After Tuesday (These Days #1) by Renee Ericson — Meh.
Verdict: Goes
Forgotten Yesterday (These Days #2) by Renee Ericson — Obvs ditto.
Verdict: Goes
Evenfall (In the Company of Shadows #1) by Sonny & Ais — Sonny is actually Santino Hassel, who is actually allegedly a gaslighting horrible human being, so no wonder it’s no longer on Amazon. And no longer here either.
I would probably be curious enough to keep Stolen, but I think it’s a good thing to let it go if you’re not 100% on it. I haven’t read it either.
