Down The TBR Hole is a meme created by Lia @ Lost in a Story that revolves around cleansing your TBR of all those books you’re never going to read and sort through it all to know what’s actually on there.
It works like this:
- Go to your goodreads to-read shelf.
- Order on ascending date added.
- Take the first 5 (or 10 (or even more!) if you’re feeling adventurous) books. Of course, if you do this weekly, you start where you left off the last time.
- Read the synopses of the books
- Decide: keep it or should it go?
This is all Lillian @Mom With a Reading Problem‘s fault. She started doing this, and I couldn’t help but look at my Kindle, and all the titles that I don’t even remember what they’re about, and I just figured maybe I should start the CLEANSE. It’s about the only CLEANSE you’ll see me participate in. I’m going to be focussing entirely on my Kindle book problem at the moment, since it’s the craziest (and it’s what features most prominently in my Goodreads TBR). And I’ve decided if a book goes, then I’m deleting it from my Kindle cloud library too — GONE! Poof! JUST DO IT! My internal hoarder is screaming right now.
ETA: OK, if I’m truly waffling over one of them, I’m giving you all like a couple days to convince me otherwise before I delete them. So speak now! (This is your fault Ashley)
As of writing this post, my current Goodreads TBR shelf has 1745 books on it. No, that’s not a typo. You see why this meme might be good for me. I’ve also decided that if I get rid of the first book in a series, and I have other books in that series, I’m going to get rid of them at the same time instead of waiting until they show up.
Forever & Always (The Ever Trilogy #1) by Jasinda Wilder — I was feeling pretty on the fence about this one, and then I saw a lot of people were unhappy with the 2nd, so I’m just going to let this go. Also, I just saw I have book 3 as well (but not 2), so that’s going too.
Verdict: Goes
99 Days of Laney MacGuire by Rachel Bateman — Honestly? I might really enjoy this book. But I don’t feel super compelled, and I just really have too many books on my TBR, so it’s going.
Verdict: Goes
Blind Love (Sulfur Heights #3) by M.S. Brannon — Rereading my reviews for the first 2 books and trying to extrapolate, I’m not sure I would enjoy this series as much anymore…and I saw someone say this was mostly a rehash of book 2 from different POVs. Basically it’s been too long, and 2021 Lenore isn’t as sucked in and curious.
Verdict: Goes
Cipher (Cipher #1) by Cindi Madsen — I truly love Cindi Madsen, but I’m just not that interested in this one…so it goes.
Verdict: Goes
Unwanted Stars (Love of My Life #4) by Melissa Brown — Meh.
Verdict: Goes
The Soul Healer (Silver Moon Saga #2) by Melissa Giorgio — Yup, still intrigued and want to get back to this series! I’m going to mark this and the 2 other books I have in the series as kept so I can just skip them in future DTTH.
Verdict: Stays
Perfectly Messy (Effortless With You #2) by Lizzy Charles — OK, I enjoyed the first book, but I don’t remember needing more. And so I’m going to let this one go.
Verdict: Goes
Damsel Distressed by Kelsey Macke — I seriously put this one on my list for mental health all the time, and then keep passing it by. I don’t think I can do it…I think it might hit too close to home with the depression and that’s why I’m avoiding. So I’m going to let it go.
Verdict: Goes
The Lioness by Jake Bonsignore — I genuinely don’t remember this book AT ALL, and I honestly have no idea why I one-clicked. Could be okay, but too many other books.
Verdict: Goes
Satisfaction (Brothers Ink #1) by Sarah Mayberry — Everyone together now: “It’s Sarah Mayberry, it stays!”.
Forever and Always is one I downloaded and then eventually got rid of, too. I just wasn’t interested in reading it anymore. You’re doing such a great job clearing out your Kindle!
Okay this is so both you and Lillian’s fault! I’m not brave enough to zap the book entirely off the cloud but I definitely want to take time to evaluate my TBR and prioritize.
