Blurb:

Love isn’t blind; it’s devastating.

June had her future all planned out, and it never involved hiding in a bunker with her long-term boyfriend during what felt like the end of the world. In fact, surviving the zombie apocalypse never even entered the picture. Yet, that’s exactly what fate gave her.

A game of survival. One horror after another. But, at least, she’s not alone. At least she has Adam…until she doesn’t.

Heartbroken, June wishes she could face the apocalypse on her own, but she’s seen what’s out there. Infected that are smart enough to fake what they are and the hellhounds determined to kill every last human. If she wants to survive, she’ll need help from the dark creatures who rescued her from the bunker.

She’ll need a fey, and Tor is just the man for the job.

My Review:

4.5 stars — I was just telling my hubby that this book fucking delighted me, and the series does in general, and it’s just so hard to convey why.  I think the dark fey are just over the top and ridiculous and yet endearing and adorable.  They say some of the most outrageous things, and Tor was the epitome of what I love about them.  He made me laugh so many times, I can’t even…

But there’s a lot else to these stories, and this story in particular.  I was really conflicted about the whole June and Adam thing.  It’s funny, b/c there’s a few author’s notes at the end of the book, and it’s not as though I don’t understand what precipitated Adam’s behavior, but I’m still mad at him.  *snort*  Others must have been too I guess.

It was weird to fall in love with a relationship, and then somehow have to move on and fall in love with another relationship.  It really shouldn’t have worked for me, and yet it did.  I think part of that is that June has a genuinely good heart.  She’s not soft and sweet per se, she’s actually pretty strong and motivated.  But her eyes are very open, and she sees to the heart of things — including to the heart of the grey guys.  I *really* appreciated that, right from the start.  And I totally got where her anxieties came from with everything that was going on, and yet she still tried SO HARD not to lead anyone on or take advantage.

Am I the only one who’s kind of sad the next book might be the last?  Like, I get the point of going out on a high, but at the same time I genuinely think I could read stories in this world for at least 10 more books.  Or at least novellas.  What about Angel’s baby??  Will we finally get to see that conclusion???

On a related note, I fucking love quite a few of the girls in this series…some more than others, which makes sense since there’s a lot of different personalities.  But it’s so awesome to see their friendships with one another — it’s not just couple everything, you know?  It’s definitely one of the strengths.

I might need to go back and reread from the beginning.  I kind of forget a lot of the things we’ve learned along the way about the dark fey, and so a recap might be good.  Especially if the next book really does turn out to be the last one.

Oh, and wtf with the zombies???  OMG, that was intense and crazy.  I really hope that wraps up satisfyingly.
