Down The TBR Hole is a meme created by Lia @ Lost in a Story that revolves around cleansing your TBR of all those books you’re never going to read and sort through it all to know what’s actually on there.
It works like this:
- Go to your goodreads to-read shelf.
- Order on ascending date added.
- Take the first 5 (or 10 (or even more!) if you’re feeling adventurous) books. Of course, if you do this weekly, you start where you left off the last time.
- Read the synopses of the books
- Decide: keep it or should it go?
This is all Lillian @Mom With a Reading Problem‘s fault. She started doing this, and I couldn’t help but look at my Kindle, and all the titles that I don’t even remember what they’re about, and I just figured maybe I should start the CLEANSE. It’s about the only CLEANSE you’ll see me participate in. I’m going to be focussing entirely on my Kindle book problem at the moment, since it’s the craziest (and it’s what features most prominently in my Goodreads TBR). And I’ve decided if a book goes, then I’m deleting it from my Kindle cloud library too — GONE! Poof! JUST DO IT! My internal hoarder is screaming right now.
ETA: OK, if I’m truly waffling over one of them, I’m giving you all like a couple days to convince me otherwise before I delete them. So speak now! (This is your fault Ashley)
As of writing this post, my current Goodreads TBR shelf has 1705 books on it. No, that’s not a typo. You see why this meme might be good for me. I’ve also decided that if I get rid of the first book in a series, and I have other books in that series, I’m going to get rid of them at the same time instead of waiting until they show up.
Evolution: ANGEL (The Evolution #1) by S.A. Huchton — What can I say, I’m still intrigued.
Verdict: Stays
The Hunted One (End of Days #1) by Meg Collett — I could probably go either way on this one, but I’m erring on the side of letting go of books, so….
Verdict: Goes
Zero (Mech. Chronicles #1) by Adam Moon — I was gifted this? Why did I even enter the giveaway? Sometimes I don’t know what 2014 Lenore was thinking. It’s not that I think the book is bad, but that nothing (from the cover to the blurb) screams “this book is for me!” So now I feel guilty that someone else who might have enjoyed it more won’t get to. 🙁
Verdict: Goes
Broken Wings (Broken #1) by Erika Ashby — Meh.
Verdict: Goes
The Probability of Violet & Luke (The Coincidence #4) by Jessica Sorensen — As with The Secret series, I enjoyed the first books in this series and want to continue on with it for now. So that means keeping 4 books (including this one). And while I’m at it, I’ll keep the rest of the books in the Secret series that I haven’t already kept in previous DTTH (which would be 2 more books).
Verdict: Stays
Proxy (The Infected #1) by P.S. Power — Damn, I won this book too…but I’m just not that interested. This is why I’m way more circumspect in entering giveaways nowadays. Regardless, off it goes.
Verdict: Goes
Neverland (Adventures in Neverland #1) by Anna Katmore — My friends’ great reviews have me intrigued, but the negative reviews have me wary. And I’m not one of those mega Peter Pan fans, so that doesn’t pull me in either. I *think* I’m going to let this one go (unless someone convinces me otherwise). Well shit, apparently I have book 2 as well…why does that make the decision harder?? I don’t know, but it does! Fine, I’m keeping them both for now. At least I wasn’t fully convinced before I changed my mind. (so that’s 2 for Stays)
Verdict: Stays
So Close to You (So Close to You #1) by Rachel Carter — Meh (which makes me feel really guilty, because again apparently someone gifted this to me…but what can you do, I’m just not compelled any longer).
Verdict: Goes
Remember When (Remember Trilogy #1) by T. Torrest — Even though I see some great reviews from friends (and one DNF — I see you Deanna), I keep passing this one over, so I’m just going to let it go.
Verdict: Goes
The Beginning of Everything by Robyn Schneider — Reading one of the more negative reviews, I have a feeling this is a book I would have enjoyed when I bought it, but not as 2021 Lenore. So I have no qualms letting it go.
You see me! Hahahaha! I love it. Oh, man. I remember not being a fan of the writing or the vibe of that book. Maybe I would have loved it when it was released, but 2021 Deanna was not impressed. I think if you read a couple of pages you would most likely toss it, so I’m glad you did!
I guess I also loved The Beginning of Everything, but I read it in 2016. I also think you would have liked it back then. Now, who knows? I don’t know if YA are as hit or miss for you these days as they are me, but if you’re not interested it’s good you passed.
For me, I tend to like lighter YAs, not literary YAs if that makes sense?
Yes, completely.
