My rating:
Blurb:There’s more to me than just being awk-weird. I own my own flower shop, have some great friends, and I have my eye on adopting the most adorable kitten. But sadly, hot guys don’t tend to be blown away by my trivia-spouting, dorky self.
So when a Thor-lookalike who happens to be a professional hockey player hits on me at my bestie’s wedding rehearsal party... You better believe I climbed that tree like a cat. And the fact that it happened not once, not twice, but three times? Yeah, that’s pretty much a once-in-a-lifetime experience for a woman like me.
There’s zero chance I’ll end up ever seeing him again...right?
Until the pregnancy test comes up positive. What happens next?
Oh my God, I wish I knew…
4 stars — This was just the kind of light, fun, sexy romp I was looking for. Which is not to say that it was without depth, just that there was enough other fun stuff to keep me hooked and entertained.
Our characters were hella complicated. They were both fucked up by stressful childhoods, and they each came out with their own coping mechanisms. And for the most part, their coping mechanisms did not mesh well. And yet, *they* did. I really loved Cole and Tess together. They were adorable and fun and dorky and nerdy and sexy.
Even though I wanted to shake both of them at various times (and I might have groaned and yelled at them while listening on occasion), I still really loved them. Tess was hilariously nerdy, and I loved the crazy facts she would spout off when she was nervous. I could have done with her wake up call being earlier, but that wouldn’t have made much of a book. It was just hard to listen to her see a situation completely wrongly, and cling to her childhood life lessons.
Cole was more adorable than I was expecting. Even though I appreciated that this needed to change, his routines amused me. I loved seeing Tess mess them all up by accident. Also, the stress baking was so cute. He was just not what I was expecting. And like Tess, I really wish he’d opened his eyes so much earlier, because it was so hard to watch him come to the completely wrong conclusions, not just about her but about his career as well!
Khan was an unexpected kittacular bonus. And I appreciated that they both had a set of good friends willing to wake them up when they needed it (no matter how they resisted). The paint and sip nights with Larry, while a small part, were also delightful.
It was my first listen of Ms. Navarro, but she and Mr. Paige did a fabulous job. Damn, Tim Paige really gets full points for his sexy time narration…he doesn’t skimp.
All in all it was definitely what I was needing right now.
COYER Scavenger Hunt #34: Read a book featuring an animal prominently in the story — in this case Khan the kitten definitely played a huge role in Tess and Cole’s coming together.
THIS REVIEW MAKES ME SO HAPPY!!! I adored this book. It was exactly what I wanted from a rom-com. Great review!
