Down The TBR Hole is a meme created by Lia @ Lost in a Story that revolves around cleansing your TBR of all those books you’re never going to read and sort through it all to know what’s actually on there.
It works like this:
- Go to your goodreads to-read shelf.
- Order on ascending date added.
- Take the first 5 (or 10 (or even more!) if you’re feeling adventurous) books. Of course, if you do this weekly, you start where you left off the last time.
- Read the synopses of the books
- Decide: keep it or should it go?
This is all Lillian @Mom With a Reading Problem‘s fault. She started doing this, and I couldn’t help but look at my Kindle, and all the titles that I don’t even remember what they’re about, and I just figured maybe I should start the CLEANSE. It’s about the only CLEANSE you’ll see me participate in. I’m going to be focussing entirely on my Kindle book problem at the moment, since it’s the craziest (and it’s what features most prominently in my Goodreads TBR). And I’ve decided if a book goes, then I’m deleting it from my Kindle cloud library too — GONE! Poof! JUST DO IT! My internal hoarder is screaming right now.
ETA: OK, if I’m truly waffling over one of them, I’m giving you all like a couple days to convince me otherwise before I delete them. So speak now! (This is your fault Ashley)
As of writing this post, my current Goodreads TBR shelf has 1697 books on it. No, that’s not a typo. You see why this meme might be good for me. I’ve also decided that if I get rid of the first book in a series, and I have other books in that series, I’m going to get rid of them at the same time instead of waiting until they show up.
I Hunt Killers (I Hunt Killers #1) by Barry Lyga — I’m not really a crime/serial killer person…I know a lot of people into that, but it’s not really my thing. I mean, I enjoyed Dexter, but I didn’t even finish that. So I’m letting this one go.
Verdict: Goes
Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe (Aristotle and Dante #1) by Benjamin Alire Sáenz — Still want to read it.
Verdict: Stays
Flat-Out Celeste (Flat-Out Love #2) by Jessica Park — Still fully intend to get to this.
Verdict: Stays
When the Mission Ends Trilogy (When the Mission Ends #0.5-3) by Christi Snow — It could definitely be entertaining, but I just don’t feel like investing in the series when I have so many others I’m more excited about. So 5 entries on the TBR go (the box set and the 4 individual books).
Verdict: Goes
Dearest Clementine (Dearest #1) by Lex Martin — Sounds good, but I would have been more wishy washy if it weren’t for so many great reviews from friends (including recently from Deanna). So it and book 2 stay for now.
Verdict: Stays
Finding Home by Lauren Baker & Bonnie Dee — Eh…while I’m not completely opposed to age gap, this isn’t pulling me in to tolerate a taboo subject.
Verdict: Goes
Almost a Bride (The Great Wedding Giveaway #3) by Sarah Mayberry — It’s Sarah Mayberry, so I will pretty much always give them a chance.
Verdict: Stays
Make-Believe Wedding (The Great Wedding Giveaway #9) by Sarah Mayberry — See above.
Verdict: Stays
Second Hearts (Wishes #2) by G.J. Walker-Smith — Yeah, I was wishy washy on the first novel, and honestly? I don’t remember a thing about the story. And it looks like the series is a few more books after this, so I’m going to let it go.
Verdict: Goes
The Summer of my Secret Angel by Anna Katmore — now titled Julian. This one was on my list for the summer, and looking into it further at the time, it wasn’t what I was expecting, and I just wasn’t feeling it. So it goes.
Thank you for keeping Flat-Out Celeste (my favorite in that series) and Dearest Clementine. The latter put me on the path of reading all of Martin’s books. I enjoyed that series and also her other one. And she has some rom-coms too!
