Down The TBR Hole is a meme created by Lia @ Lost in a Story that revolves around cleansing your TBR of all those books you’re never going to read and sort through it all to know what’s actually on there.

It works like this:

  • Go to your goodreads to-read shelf.
  • Order on ascending date added.
  • Take the first 5 (or 10 (or even more!) if you’re feeling adventurous) books. Of course, if you do this weekly, you start where you left off the last time.
  • Read the synopses of the books
  • Decide: keep it or should it go?

This is all Lillian @Mom With a Reading Problem‘s fault.  She started doing this, and I couldn’t help but look at my Kindle, and all the titles that I don’t even remember what they’re about, and I just figured maybe I should start the CLEANSE.  It’s about the only CLEANSE you’ll see me participate in.  I’m going to be focussing entirely on my Kindle book problem at the moment, since it’s the craziest (and it’s what features most prominently in my Goodreads TBR).  And I’ve decided if a book goes, then I’m deleting it from my Kindle cloud library too — GONE!  Poof!  JUST DO IT!  My internal hoarder is screaming right now.

ETA: OK, if I’m truly waffling over one of them, I’m giving you all like a couple days to convince me otherwise before I delete them. So speak now! (This is your fault Ashley)

As of writing this post, my current Goodreads TBR shelf has 1671 books on it.  No, that’s not a typo.  You see why this meme might be good for me.  I’ve also decided that if I get rid of the first book in a series, and I have other books in that series, I’m going to get rid of them at the same time instead of waiting until they show up.

What Dragons Prefer by Dayle A. Dermatis — 10 pages? What’s the point.

Verdict: Goes

Marked (Northern Shifters #1) by Joely Skye — Anyone else kinda creeped out by this cover? I don’t know why, but it creeps me out. Either way, not feeling compelled….

Verdict: Goes

Worth the Fall (Brew Ha Ha #2) by Bria Quinlan — Oh, I have every intention of coming back to this series…though, I have a box set of the first 4 books, so I need to clean up my kindle and only keep the box set, but that doesn’t affect my TBR. In total that means 6 kept.

Verdict: Stays

Bright Side (Bright Side #1) by Kim Holden — “This book is so good, it’ll fucking eviscerate your emotions!” I mean, that’s not a direct quote, but it’s the gist of what I’ve heard from so many people. So is it any wonder I haven’t grabbed it yet? And yet I can’t get rid of it. I mean, I even have other books in the “series”. So it, along with books 2 and 3, are staying for now.

Verdict: Stays

Scar of the Bamboo Leaf by Sieni A.M. — I always have this on my list for a Pacific Islander read for my Diversity Challenge, but I keep bypassing it. And after reading the blurb, I don’t know why? I’m pulled in, I want to read more.

Verdict: Stays

Falling Under (Falling #3) by Jasinda Wilder — I already kept book 2 earlier this summer, so I’m keeping this and book 5 as well (I don’t have book 4).

Verdict: Stays

Of River & Raynn — The Catalyst by Rebecca Ethington — Since this one is no longer available, I’m not going to invest in it.

Verdict: Goes

Death of the Mad Hatter by Sarah J. Pepper — Honestly, I got lost in the blurb so it’ll go. But I still love that cover.

Verdict: Goes

Only Half Alive (Only #1) by Konstanz Silverbow — Apparently no longer available, and while I’m still pulled in by the cover (which is apparently an old one?), I don’t think I’m pulled in enough.

Verdict: Goes

Elevated by Elana Johnson — Another no longer available, and I don’t think I’m intrigued enough to keep.

Verdict: Goes

  1. I’m guessing you haven’t picked Bright Side up because 1. people are telling you how emotional it is and 2. all the hype. I read it because a GR group I was in back in the day were going to buddy read the second book and I wanted to do it with them. When I started it, I couldn’t understand what people loved about it. But once I got into it, I couldn’t put it down. It wrecked me, but it also built me up in ways I really needed. I’m hoping you pick it up sooner than later.

    • It’s just, I feel like I’m never in the right mood you know? Maybe I’ll prioritize it for 2022. I was thinking I should have a reading challenge caveat for one of those backlist challenges where I have to read at least *1* book I keep from DTTH each month. What’s the point of keeping if I don’t read them, you know?

      • You could put it in the challenge to finish a series even though you haven’t technically finished one yet. But I do think it would be cool if you made it a 2022 priority. Just read it and get it over with. đŸ˜‰
