Down The TBR Hole is a meme created by Lia @ Lost in a Story that revolves around cleansing your TBR of all those books you’re never going to read and sort through it all to know what’s actually on there.

It works like this:

  • Go to your goodreads to-read shelf.
  • Order on ascending date added.
  • Take the first 5 (or 10 (or even more!) if you’re feeling adventurous) books. Of course, if you do this weekly, you start where you left off the last time.
  • Read the synopses of the books
  • Decide: keep it or should it go?

This is all Lillian @Mom With a Reading Problem‘s fault.  She started doing this, and I couldn’t help but look at my Kindle, and all the titles that I don’t even remember what they’re about, and I just figured maybe I should start the CLEANSE.  It’s about the only CLEANSE you’ll see me participate in.  I’m going to be focussing entirely on my Kindle book problem at the moment, since it’s the craziest (and it’s what features most prominently in my Goodreads TBR).  And I’ve decided if a book goes, then I’m deleting it from my Kindle cloud library too — GONE!  Poof!  JUST DO IT!  My internal hoarder is screaming right now.

ETA: OK, if I’m truly waffling over one of them, I’m giving you all like a couple days to convince me otherwise before I delete them. So speak now! (This is your fault Ashley)

As of writing this post, my current Goodreads TBR shelf has 1663 books on it.  No, that’s not a typo.  You see why this meme might be good for me.  I’ve also decided that if I get rid of the first book in a series, and I have other books in that series, I’m going to get rid of them at the same time instead of waiting until they show up.

Absent by Katie Williams — I’m waffling…I can honestly say I’m kind of intrigued. So fine, it stays for now.

Verdict: Stays

Coexist (Keegan’s Chronicles #1) by Julia Crane — I think the cover keeps making me want to keep it, but I don’t think I need another insta-love in my life. Maybe a new insta-love, but not an early indie insta-love.

Verdict: Goes

Beg (Songs of Submission #1) by C.D. Reiss — I have the box set of the whole series, and honestly? I’m just not that compelled. I didn’t read 50 Shades either. I think I prefer more humour with my BDSM (see Sophie Oak). So, while I know people loved these novellas, I’m letting them all go. Which means *10* off my TBR. No regrets.

Verdict: Goes

Missing Royal (Finding Gold #1) by Konstanz Silverbow — Meh…also no longer available, so if it really is a series I’d be screwed.

Verdict: Goes

Out of Reach (Love Hurts #2) by Missy Johnson — Could be okay, but also sounds like too much uncomfortable drama for me.

Verdict: Goes

inTENse by Various Authors — I did read one in this collection, and it was meh…I’m not feeling compelled to check out the others.

Verdict: Goes

Infinity + One by Amy Harmon — Oh I’ll be getting to this one…someday.

Verdict: Stays

Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher — I’ve seen passing commentary about the problematic nature of this novel/tv show, so I don’t feel the need to read it.

Verdict: Goes

All the Pretty Lies (Pretty #1) by M. Leighton — Meh.

Verdict: Goes

The Dark Light of Day (King #0) by T.M. Frazier — I’m not an M.C. reader, and I’m not a questionable morality reader. So I don’t feel compelled to read this regardless of the great reviews from friends.

Verdict: Goes

  1. I wasn’t a fan of Beg. I think I got the first three books in a free set but didn’t enjoy them enough to read on. I think that’s a good call to dump. I also dumped 13 Reasons Why. I just didn’t care to read it for some reason. I had it sitting around for a long time. I also think it’s probably a good thing that you dumped The Dark Light of Day if you can’t stomach dark romance and questionable morality. I wouldn’t probably recommend her writing to you anyways. I am happy you kept Harmon’s book. That was my first book by her and I loved it. It’s not her most famous or anything, but it holds a special place in my heart.
