Down The TBR Hole is a meme created by Lia @ Lost in a Story that revolves around cleansing your TBR of all those books you’re never going to read and sort through it all to know what’s actually on there.
It works like this:
- Go to your goodreads to-read shelf.
- Order on ascending date added.
- Take the first 5 (or 10 (or even more!) if you’re feeling adventurous) books. Of course, if you do this weekly, you start where you left off the last time.
- Read the synopses of the books
- Decide: keep it or should it go?
This is all Lillian @Mom With a Reading Problem‘s fault. She started doing this, and I couldn’t help but look at my Kindle, and all the titles that I don’t even remember what they’re about, and I just figured maybe I should start the CLEANSE. It’s about the only CLEANSE you’ll see me participate in. I’m going to be focussing entirely on my Kindle book problem at the moment, since it’s the craziest (and it’s what features most prominently in my Goodreads TBR). And I’ve decided if a book goes, then I’m deleting it from my Kindle cloud library too — GONE! Poof! JUST DO IT! My internal hoarder is screaming right now.
ETA: OK, if I’m truly waffling over one of them, I’m giving you all like a couple days to convince me otherwise before I delete them. So speak now! (This is your fault Ashley)
As of writing this post, my current Goodreads TBR shelf has 1632 books on it. No, that’s not a typo. You see why this meme might be good for me. I’ve also decided that if I get rid of the first book in a series, and I have other books in that series, I’m going to get rid of them at the same time instead of waiting until they show up.
Front and Center (Dairy Queen #3) by Catherine Gilbert Murdock — I already kept book 2 in a previous DTTH, but that was before I would preemptively keep the rest of the series…so obviously stays.
Verdict: Stays
The Pact (The McGregor Brothers #1) by Karina Halle — I’m sure this is a good book, but I’m just not feeling compelled.
Verdict: Goes
Blood Debt (Touched #1) by Nancy Straight — I got this because it was a favourite of Carla’s, but I just am not that interested…so I’m going to let it go.
Verdict: Goes
Almost Lover (Silver Strand #6) by Steph Campbell & Liz Reinhardt — I believe this is at least unofficially part of the Silver Strand series, and since I kept all of those, I’m keeping this as well.
Verdict: Stays
Unwind (Unwind #1) by Neal Shusterman — Yup, I’m curious.
Verdict: Stays
Better Off Friends by Elizabeth Eulberg — This sounds really cute, but it also sounds a lot like Love Rosie…and I can just see myself continuing to put this one off. So I’mma let it go.
Verdict: Goes
Gypsy (The Cavy Files #1) by Trisha Leigh — I guess I’m just not interested enough…but I am waffling because a few friends really enjoyed it. Speak now or forever hold your peace!
Verdict: Goes?
Never Never (Never Never #1) by Colleen Hoover & Tarryn Fisher — You can only get the complete series now. I keep avoiding this one, maybe because of the mixed feelings about the last part? But I’m still curious. *sigh* So it stays for now (as well parts 2 and 3).
Verdict: Stays
Rebel Wing (Rebel Wing #1) by Tracy Banghart — That Goodreads blurb is not nearly as compelling as the Amazon blurb. I hope the book didn’t significantly change when it was apparently rereleased, because I have the old version. All the same, that new blurb captures my attention so it stays.
Verdict: Stays
Feudlings (Fate on Fire #1) by Wendy Knight — It sounded a bit interesting, but I waffled and in the end that’s enough to let it go.
I had to look up The Pact and see if it was one, I dumped last year or if I read it. I read it. I gave it 4 stars. My review made it sound like I was frustrated at times but ended up liking it a lot. So maybe good you dumped it?
Thank goodness you kept Never Never. HAHA I’ve only read one Eulberg book and I loved it, but it wasn’t this one so I have no thoughts.
The thing is that I have SO many books, that I’ll never read them all. So even if a book sounds good, that’s not enough anymore. I have to be intrigued. In the case of The Pact, there were other Karina Halle contemps I was interested in but hadn’t read yet. Same with the Eulberg book. I’m sure it’s cute! But with so many choices, something’s gotta go. đŸ˜›
