Down The TBR Hole is a meme created by Lia @ Lost in a Story that revolves around cleansing your TBR of all those books you’re never going to read and sort through it all to know what’s actually on there.
It works like this:
- Go to your goodreads to-read shelf.
- Order on ascending date added.
- Take the first 5 (or 10 (or even more!) if you’re feeling adventurous) books. Of course, if you do this weekly, you start where you left off the last time.
- Read the synopses of the books
- Decide: keep it or should it go?
This is all Lillian @Mom With a Reading Problem‘s fault. She started doing this, and I couldn’t help but look at my Kindle, and all the titles that I don’t even remember what they’re about, and I just figured maybe I should start the CLEANSE. It’s about the only CLEANSE you’ll see me participate in. I’m going to be focussing entirely on my Kindle book problem at the moment, since it’s the craziest (and it’s what features most prominently in my Goodreads TBR). And I’ve decided if a book goes, then I’m deleting it from my Kindle cloud library too — GONE! Poof! JUST DO IT! My internal hoarder is screaming right now.
ETA: OK, if I’m truly waffling over one of them, I’m giving you all like a couple days to convince me otherwise before I delete them. So speak now! (This is your fault Ashley)
As of writing this post, my current Goodreads TBR shelf has 1626 books on it. No, that’s not a typo. You see why this meme might be good for me. I’ve also decided that if I get rid of the first book in a series, and I have other books in that series, I’m going to get rid of them at the same time instead of waiting until they show up.
His Only Valentine by Various Authors — I probably initially got this one for the Sarah Mayberry book…except, I already have the Sarah Mayberry book (and just read it this month and it was okay). These feel very Harlequin-ish, and I’m just not in that zone anymore…especially not enough for 12 more novellas.
Verdict: Goes
Last to Know (Willow Creek #1) by Micalea Smeltzer — This could be okay, but I’m not champing at the bit so I’ll let it go.
Verdict: Goes
Better by Carey Heywood — I think I won this one, and while I adore Ms. Heywood, I’m not really interested in this one…so it goes.
Verdict: Goes
The Beautiful Dead (The Beautiful Dead #1) by Daryl Banner — Huh…I thought I was going to let this go. I got it based on friends recommendation. Read those reviews again, and fine…I’m intrigued enough to keep books 1 and 2.
Verdict: Stays
Outlier: Rebellion (Outlier #1) by Daryl Banner — All of these books by Mr. Banner were recommended to me, but I still don’t really have enough interest in this one.
Verdict: Goes
super psycho future killers by Daryl Banner — Same for this one.
Verdict: Goes
Psychology of Want by Daryl Banner — Now titled Lover’s Flood. This one also doesn’t feel like me.
Verdict: Goes
Caching In (Pastime Pursuits #1) by Tracy Krimmer — Could be cute, but again — I’m just not interested *enough*.
Verdict: Goes
Timebound (The Chronos Files #1) by Rysa Walker — Honestly, I was leaning more towards letting this one go, but here’s the problem…I have a signed, personalized paperback copy of this book. And thus, I will keep it for now.
Verdict: Stays
Stray (Touchstone #1) by Andrea K. Höst — I’m curious enough to give it a shot.
Well, you could always keep Timebound and not read it. Haha. I know what you’re saying about the personalization making you want to/feel like you should keep it.
That first Baner book’s cover had me thinking you would dump it. It was fun to find out why you weren’t. Oh, and “Lovers Flood” is a horrible name for a book. Should have kept the original. Nice job tossing today.
Dude, right? That cover is…not amazing. But I know I have other books I love where the covers are terrible, so I’m going to at least give it a shot.
