Down The TBR Hole is a meme created by Lia @ Lost in a Story that revolves around cleansing your TBR of all those books you’re never going to read and sort through it all to know what’s actually on there.
It works like this:
- Go to your goodreads to-read shelf.
- Order on ascending date added.
- Take the first 5 (or 10 (or even more!) if you’re feeling adventurous) books. Of course, if you do this weekly, you start where you left off the last time.
- Read the synopses of the books
- Decide: keep it or should it go?
This is all Lillian @Mom With a Reading Problem‘s fault. She started doing this, and I couldn’t help but look at my Kindle, and all the titles that I don’t even remember what they’re about, and I just figured maybe I should start the CLEANSE. It’s about the only CLEANSE you’ll see me participate in. I’m going to be focussing entirely on my Kindle book problem at the moment, since it’s the craziest (and it’s what features most prominently in my Goodreads TBR). And I’ve decided if a book goes, then I’m deleting it from my Kindle cloud library too — GONE! Poof! JUST DO IT! My internal hoarder is screaming right now.
ETA: OK, if I’m truly waffling over one of them, I’m giving you all like a couple days to convince me otherwise before I delete them. So speak now! (This is your fault Ashley)
As of writing this post, my current Goodreads TBR shelf has 1597 books on it. No, that’s not a typo. You see why this meme might be good for me. I’ve also decided that if I get rid of the first book in a series, and I have other books in that series, I’m going to get rid of them at the same time instead of waiting until they show up.
Time Trap (The Rewind Agency/Conspiracy #1) by Jill Cooper — It could be good, but I’m not interested in starting a 6 book series on “could be good”.
Verdict: Goes
The Distance Between Us by Kasie West — Yup, sometimes I need a good summer YA romance.
Verdict: Stays
The Scribe (Irin Chronicles #1) by Elizabeth Hunter — Having just finished Ms. Hunter’s Elemental Mysteries series, and really enjoyed it, I will most certainly be keeping this.
Verdict: Stays
Losing Control (Babysitting a Billionaire #1) by Nina Croft — Eh, sometimes you just need a hot, short, friends to lovers steamy read.
Verdict: Stays
First Impressions (To Be With You #1) by V. Kelly — *sigh* So I sort of beta read the first part of this book, but it wasn’t for me. The author still gifted it to me, but I just can’t see finishing it. So I’mma let this one go.
Verdict: Goes
Trust the Focus (In Focus #1) by Megan Erickson — I have no concrete reasons for not keeping this one, but I feel like I’m convincing myself, so I’m going to let it go.
Verdict: Goes
Joni, Underway by Kelly Oram & Jonathan Harrow — I love Ms. Oram, but from everything I’ve heard, this one had more influence from her husband, and I don’t feel compelled by it.
Verdict: Goes
Unfortunate Fairy Tale Boxed Set (An Unfortunate Fairy Tale #1-4) by Chanda Hahn — I read the first one and enjoyed it, but wasn’t like blown away. I think I’m going to keep the actual box set, since it’s my only copy of the first book…but I’m going to at least remove books 2-4 from my TBR…because if I’m honest, I likely won’t get back to it.
Verdict: Goes
Love Always, Kate (Love Always #1) by D. Nichole King — Meh.
Verdict: Goes
Burden (Bayou Bear Chronicles #1) by Lila Felix — I saw in one of the lower reviews that there were a lot of inconsistencies, and my brain snags on that stuff, so I’mma let it go.
The Distance Between Us was my first Kasie West book! I loved it and then binged her others that were out then. The shop she works in cracked me up. It will be a fun summer read for sure.
Nice job removing so many books!
