Down The TBR Hole is a meme created by Lia @ Lost in a Story that revolves around cleansing your TBR of all those books you’re never going to read and sort through it all to know what’s actually on there.
It works like this:
- Go to your goodreads to-read shelf.
- Order on ascending date added.
- Take the first 5 (or 10 (or even more!) if you’re feeling adventurous) books. Of course, if you do this weekly, you start where you left off the last time.
- Read the synopses of the books
- Decide: keep it or should it go?
This is all Lillian @Mom With a Reading Problem‘s fault. She started doing this, and I couldn’t help but look at my Kindle, and all the titles that I don’t even remember what they’re about, and I just figured maybe I should start the CLEANSE. It’s about the only CLEANSE you’ll see me participate in. I’m going to be focussing entirely on my Kindle book problem at the moment, since it’s the craziest (and it’s what features most prominently in my Goodreads TBR). And I’ve decided if a book goes, then I’m deleting it from my Kindle cloud library too — GONE! Poof! JUST DO IT! My internal hoarder is screaming right now.
ETA: OK, if I’m truly waffling over one of them, I’m giving you all like a couple days to convince me otherwise before I delete them. So speak now! (This is your fault Ashley)
As of writing this post, my current Goodreads TBR shelf has 1568 books on it. No, that’s not a typo. You see why this meme might be good for me. I’ve also decided that if I get rid of the first book in a series, and I have other books in that series, I’m going to get rid of them at the same time instead of waiting until they show up.
Archer: Blood & Grace by Alex Tuttle — Ah yes, my first beta read that I didn’t review…it started a trend unfortunately. In this case there were some changes that we suggested, and I wanted to read it fresh and review from the final copy. It’s part of my Bookish Resolutions challenge to get back to these.
Verdict: Stays
Kick, Push (Kick Push #1) by Jay McLean — I keep keeping this author, and it’s Deanna’s fault (you’ve been called out A Novel Glimpse). In this case I later got a boxed set of this book and Coast, so that’s actually 3 that stay.
Verdict: Stays
PRIDE (The Brody Bunch #1) by Sienna Valentine — I got this because my former co-pilot enjoyed it…but I’m not actually interested enough.
Verdict: Goes
Read My Lips (A College Obsession Romance #1) by Daryl Banner — Another book I got based on a friend recommendation, but I’m actually just not that interested.
Verdict: Goes
House on the Hill by Gwen Selix — This was a friend venturing into authorship, so I supported her…but in truth, it’s not grabbing me.
Verdict: Goes
Blood Crown (The Eden Project #1) by Ali Cross — Doesn’t seem to be available any longer, but listed as part of a series…no way am I investing even if I was interested.
Verdict: Goes
Southern Kicks by Cassie Mae — Wait, what? A Cassie Mae book I haven’t read? There are actually 2 (see the next one), but obvs they both stay.
Verdict: Stays
Broken Records by Cassie Mae & Tessa Marie — .
Verdict: Stays
My Last: Riley & Chelle (Crossroads #2) by Melanie Shawn — Hmmm…I waffled about this one, but I’m pretty sure the only reason I even got it was because it was on a favourite author’s favourites list of some sort (though it was 6 years ago, so who knows now). I’mma keep it for now…especially since Deanna (2 callouts!) really enjoyed it.
Verdict: Stays
Aurora Sky Vampire Hunter (Aurora Sky: Vampire Hunter #1-3) by Nikki Jefford — I tried listening to book 1 when I had Audible Escape, but was NOT interested…I think I must have deleted this boxed set, b/c I don’t have it anymore. So I’ll remove 4 books from my TBR (all but book 1 since it has my DNF review).
I’m sorry I’m forcing you to keep all of these Jay McLean books. *Evil laugh* You should really just try one and then maybe it won’t be for you, and you can ditch them all. Hopefully that wouldn’t happen, though. I am hoping you like her writing!
I should read at least one of them! Maybe that’ll be another 2022 goal. đŸ™‚
Oh! And that Melanie Shawn book… I read it back when I just started reading romance, so I don’t know what I would think of it today. Just warning you there. I haven’t read one of her books in YEARS.
Oh, I definitely take into account when you read them, because we ALL change our tastes and standards as time goes by. But since I had another rec for it, it was mostly just a “do it Lenore”, not the whole reason for keeping. đŸ™‚
I totally get that. Hope you’re feeling better!
And P.S. I am sad we’re not at BB22 right now. Stupid covid.
