Blurb:

S’bren doesn’t realize what a mess he’s stepping in when he steals me away. He just wants to resonate. Sweet, right? But his methods are all wrong and resonance doesn’t look as if it's happening anytime soon for either of us.

So I’m going to use this time away from the camp as an opportunity. We’re going to go exploring and not return to the beach camp until I'm good and ready. It's one part punishment for him - being my guide - and one part adventure for me. We'll have fun, swing from some vines in the fruit cave, and then return to 'ICEHOME' when we are good and ready.

What's not part of the plan? Falling in love. Matters of the heart are tricky when khui gets the final say. . .and mine is totally silent.

My Review:

4.5 stars — As should come as a surprise to no one who knows me, S’bren and Penny were all that and a bag of chips for me.  They were my kind of characters, and the story was just fun and sweet and steamy with enough intrigue to keep me going.

I adore me a beta boy, and while S’bren is a bit of an unconventional one, I’m still counting him.  He was so wonderfully awkward, I was melting.  That fish.  I mean seriously boy, you are so cute.  (though I am not a fan of Penny calling him a goober…for no particular reason).  I felt for him and how his mind worked differently, so he often felt like the “dumb one”.  His brain might move a bit slower at times, but that doesn’t make a person dumb.  I love how literally he took some things, it made for some funny moments.  And he was always paying attention to the things that were important, including Penny.  I LOVED the way he adored her.

Penny was such a sunshine character.  She had a really positive bent to her personality that I appreciated.  And she was inherently kind.  She definitely had some sass as well, and I enjoyed her adventurous spirit.  I ached for how she had been hurt in the past…it really just made me angry over human society again, but I’m not going to go into that here.  I appreciated that while she had a lot of insecurities, she could move past some and balance them, especially in this new world.  I also loved how romantic she was.

They were pretty adorable together.  And not just adorable, lots of tension and steamy chemistry too!

I was really intrigued by the sort of mystery nearer to the end, it was an interesting addition.  Nothing big, but it brought back some bits from the IPB series.

It’ll be interesting to see how things go for the next books.  The Shadow Cat clan really hasn’t had a lot of time in the spotlight, and I’m worried that they’re not being shown in a very good light right now.  I guess we’ll see!
