Down The TBR Hole is a meme created by Lia @ Lost in a Story that revolves around cleansing your TBR of all those books you’re never going to read and sort through it all to know what’s actually on there.
It works like this:
- Go to your goodreads to-read shelf.
- Order on ascending date added.
- Take the first 5 (or 10 (or even more!) if you’re feeling adventurous) books. Of course, if you do this weekly, you start where you left off the last time.
- Read the synopses of the books
- Decide: keep it or should it go?
This is all Lillian @Mom With a Reading Problem‘s fault. She started doing this, and I couldn’t help but look at my Kindle, and all the titles that I don’t even remember what they’re about, and I just figured maybe I should start the CLEANSE. It’s about the only CLEANSE you’ll see me participate in. I’m going to be focussing entirely on my Kindle book problem at the moment, since it’s the craziest (and it’s what features most prominently in my Goodreads TBR). And I’ve decided if a book goes, then I’m deleting it from my Kindle cloud library too — GONE! Poof! JUST DO IT! My internal hoarder is screaming right now.
ETA: OK, if I’m truly waffling over one of them, I’m giving you all like a couple days to convince me otherwise before I delete them. So speak now! (This is your fault Ashley)
As of writing this post, my current Goodreads TBR shelf has 1547 books on it. No, that’s not a typo. You see why this meme might be good for me. I’ve also decided that if I get rid of the first book in a series, and I have other books in that series, I’m going to get rid of them at the same time instead of waiting until they show up.
Rae of Sunshine (Light in the Dark #1) by Micalea Smeltzer — I read a non-contemp from this author and it didn’t go well. And looking at the less than favourable reviews for this book, I don’t think this is going to be for me either…so I’m letting this and book 2 go.
Verdict: Goes
Why Now? (Love Riddles #1) by Carey Heywood — I had a medium experience with book 3 of this series, and some of the reviews have me waffling…but I always kind of wanted to give this another shot and read in order. They’re standalones, but I can’t help but wonder if there’s enough connection that it will help. So this and book 2 stay.
Verdict: Stays
The Touch (The Cotiere Chronicles #2) by Michelle Bolanger — Honestly, I was conflicted on book 1. And if I didn’t know this author, didn’t have a signed paperback copy of this book, I’m not sure I would keep pursuing this series. It doesn’t help that it seems to be pulled, and I doubt I’ll get Baden’s story (the one I was most looking forward to). But I’ll keep this and book 3 for now in case that changes.
Verdict: Stays
Strawberries for Dessert (Coda Books #4) by Marie Sexton — I really enjoyed the first book and her writing, so I’m definitely keeping this and book 2.
Verdict: Stays
This is Me. (This is Me. #1) by C.E. Wilson — Not interested enough…also, not the target market for something purposely marketed as clean.
Verdict: Goes
Out of Bounds (The Summer Games #2) by R.S. Grey — I really enjoy Ms. Grey in general…but I have always felt reluctant about this book. Maybe it’s the premise (coach/athlete)? I don’t know. But I always avoid it. So I’mma call it.
Verdict: Goes
Mercury Striking (The Scorpius Syndrome #1) by Rebecca Zanetti — I have several friends who enjoy this author and this series, so definitely stays.
Verdict: Stays
Reluctantly Married (Married #2) by Victorine E. Lieske — I really enjoyed book 1…I mean, it was forever ago, but I’m willing to take the risk and keep this series for now (and since I have the box set, that means 5 for staying).
Verdict: Stays
Random Acts of Hope (Random #4) by Julia Kent — Apparently today is a waffling and then keeping things day. This is book 4, and I haven’t read any of them, but I have the first 3 as well. The reviews for book 1 aren’t great, but a lot mention the menage being the problem, and I’ve enjoyed menage romances in the past. So for now they all (5 because box set) stay…leave it for another day.
Verdict: Stays
Blue Eyes and Other Teenage Hazards (Pullman High #1) by Janette Rallison — I’m sure it’s good, but I’m just not feeling wowed…plus, I just kept some I waffled on, so apparently I need to atone.
I didn’t love Out of Bounds, so not a bad idea skipping. I did enjoy the first book in the series, though.
I enjoyed the first one too! But I just was never curious about book 2, and I saw you were meh about it, so that solidified my decision.
