My rating:
Blurb:New from twenty-time USA Today bestseller Sarina Bowen!
How to behave when the guy who broke your heart two thousand miles away turns up in your office:
One: Don’t drop your lucky coffee cup in shock, even though it’s been ten years.
Two: Don’t get defensive when he asks how you ended up working his family’s ski mountain… and why you kept it a secret.
Three: Give him the worst room in the resort. He deserves it for suddenly waltzing back in like he owns the place. (Which he kind of does.)
Four, five, six, seven, eight and nine: Do not kiss him in the hot tub.
Ten: Try to keep your heart intact after you break all of your rules.
Because Reed is leaving again. Hate can't turn back into love. And it’s a little too late…
I received a free copy through the author in exchange for an honest and unbiased review/opinion.
4.5 stars — Well that was just a gobble it up read, with likeable characters and a couple you root for! I don’t know if maybe it was just the first read to pull me out of my slump, but I enjoyed this enough I was even sneaking in bits during active vacation — which is not like me.
Reed was not what I was expecting for some reason…he was so lovey and huggable at times. It was hard to imagine all the years he spent closed off instead of dealing with his grief over so many things. I loved the Reed that came out around Ava. There was just a sense of fun and adventure to him, and I loved the way he became more teasing. His relationship with his assistant Sheila was awesome, and now I really want a Sheila book. He was definitely dealing with a lot of stuff, and in the worst way, but it did make it satisfying to see him shaken up. I appreciated that he didn’t take forever to see what he wanted…it just took him a bit to figure out how to get it and how much effort he was going to have to put in.
Ava was that perfect mix of quiet and sassy…I think Reed in particular brought out her sassy, and I loved it. I loved how much she loved her job, and how awesomely competent she was at it. She just had this air of ingenuity and know-how. I loved that she had this wonderful set of friends to rely on too. I feel like I don’t have as much to say about her, and while she frustrated me a bit with how she occasionally didn’t understand Reed, she always came back to understanding eventually.
They were pretty much fire together. There was a palpable chemistry between them, from their every interaction. You could tell they were perfect for each other, they just needed to get over some humps.
The drama on the mountain was interesting, and I loved to hate the Sharpes. Wow, what a bunch of a-holes. I was a bit worried here and there about how it would turn out, but it ended quite satisfyingly.
I wasn’t as big a fan of the removed 3rd person in the flashback chapters…I always forgot and then would be confused for a bit. But that is 100% personal preference, and there were less than a handful of those short chapters, so…
All in all, exactly what I was needing. I’m a wee bit worried about these 2 other brothers, they really don’t come across well in this book…then again, there was a lot of damage there, so I just gotta keep the faith in Ms. Yarros and Ms. Perry.
Yessss! I felt the same about this one. I loved it. I am excited for the rest of the series. Great review!
