Blurb:

From USA Today bestselling author Rebecca Yarros comes a small town, single parent romance.

Nine years ago, Weston Madigan saved me. I came to Colorado penniless, heartbroken, and pregnant, searching for a fresh start. Weston gave me a job at his family’s resort, then left the next day and never returned, not even to visit.

Then I stumble in on Weston cooking breakfast shirtless—gloriously, inappropriately shirtless—in the shared kitchen of my duplex in employee housing. Given the shock on both our faces, he wasn’t expecting a roommate either, let alone two.

The growly pilot is only home to start his family’s new heli-skiing operation. I can handle being his temporary roommate, right? Chemistry and attraction aren’t impossible to ignore when you agree on ground rules. Besides, even with those gorgeous, brooding brown eyes, the guy is a walking thundercloud…until my daughter, Sutton, makes him laugh and he smiles at me. Then everything changes. Cue inconvenient heart flip.

This is only temporary.
I can’t fall for Weston.
I. Will. Not. Fall. For. Weston.
But rules go out the window when you’re a little too close.

My Review:

4.5 stars — Well damn, that was devourable.

Callie was this interesting mix of brave and cautious.  There were so many moments where I appreciated her willingness to put herself out there and try things before writing them off.  But she had her moments of caution as well, especially when it came to her daughter’s happiness.  I can imagine how hard it would be to have these two dichotomous instincts waging war inside, and she came across perfectly that way.  I also loved her sassiness, and how her bravery extended to a forwardness with Weston that really made me smile.  She had her moments where she frustrated me, but never in a way where I didn’t understand what was going on behind the scenes and driving her emotions and actions.  I appreciated watching her grow, especially at the end.

Weston’s growth was equally as satisfying, probably because he showed this slow growth throughout, with this one big roadblock preventing him from jumping into “evolved” Weston, as his friend Theo would say.  He starts off so closed off and rigid, and it was an absolute delight to see Callie and Sutton bring out the true Weston inside.  I loved how even though he comes across as a grumpy asshole with grudges — and don’t get me wrong, he is that — there was a lot more simmering underneath.  There was this loyalty, thoughtfulness, kindness, just need to be needed and be there for the ones he loves…even if he won’t admit he loves them.  Seeing all these boys so damaged from their past just makes me ache…because they all reacted in entirely different ways to the trauma.  And I think because he had such a long way to go, it made it that much more satisfying when he got there.

I have to admit, their chemistry took me by surprise at times.  They were seriously fire together, and I loved seeing the friendship they developed at the same time.  I don’t know, there was something just really satisfying about the two of them together, I just loved them.

Sutton was an absolute delight — she was very much what I would expect from a 11 year old.  She was precocious and pushed buttons, and I just loved her.

Yeah, I don’t even know what more to say, other than I was all in and the book just made me happy.
