My rating:
Blurb:Quirky and fun-loving American heiress Daisy Bowman is the last unmarried Wallflower. Her exasperated father has informed her that if she can’t find a husband by the end of her third London season, she will be forced to marry a man she hates—the ruthless entrepreneur, Matthew Swift.
Daisy is horrified. A Bowman never admits defeat, so she decides to do whatever it takes to marry someone...anyone...other than Matthew. What she doesn’t count on, however, is Matthew’s unexpected charm, or the blazing sensuality that soon flares beyond both their control. And Daisy discovers that the man she has always hated just might turn out to be the man of her dreams.
But when a scandalous secret is uncovered, it could destroy both Matthew and a love more passionate and irresistible than Daisy’s wildest fantasies.
4 stars — Well, that was more adorable and fun than I was expecting. I think after being frustrated with how long Lillian’s story was, I was worried about Daisy. But she was delightful, and I enjoyed her romance with Matthew Swift!
Daisy was an intriguing heroine, because while she seemed to love having her head in the clouds and in her books, there was a very practical side to her too. She may not have known what a good match would be for her, but once she became intrigued she sure set her sights on making it happen. She wasn’t what I expected, though I’m not sure I know what I expected from her. I appreciated her frankness, her willingness to be bold when needed, and how she seemed a bit lost as the last wallflower standing.
Matthew was quite a surprise. I wasn’t sold on him at first, and not because of Lillian and Daisy’s misgivings…he just took me a tiny bit of a time to figure out. But once you started to understand how ardently fascinated he was by Daisy, I was all in. And while I did have a few little guesses about his mysterious past, I never even remotely put the full picture together. I really appreciated that while he was very practical and down to earth, he delighted in Daisy just as she was and didn’t want her to be anything else.
And I loved their bantering chemistry with one another. They brought out this feisty admiration for one another, and I was in from the lawn bowling scene on. I will admit that the button scene made me swoon all over.
I was frustrated with Lillian here and there, but wow does Westcliff really balance her well. It was nice to see little bits of all the wallflowers and their families and where they are now.
All in all, a solid finale to the series.
