My rating:
Blurb:Life has taught me that I can't trust anyone. Not friends, not family. In the worst, darkest moments, no one can be counted on to have your back. Even a billion miles away from Earth, on a remote icy planet, I still feel alone. The only consolation? I haven't resonated. It's not that I don't want love or children. I just can't trust anyone, even myself.
But then one day, my khui resonates, and it's to the last guy I ever expected. In fact, I resonate so hard that my chest is singing its mating song before his does. That never happens.
So what does a calm, rational, grown woman do when life turns upside down? She runs for the hills, of course.I should have known he'd follow me.
3.5 stars — I thought I would like this one more than I did, but I was disappointed that Sam never really had plans to open up to anyone else, especially Steph…course, that might change after the book takes place, but I’m still bummed.
Sam had a LOT going on with her, and having never experienced anything like what she went through, I found it hard sometimes to understand her reluctance after so much time. I don’t fault her, I genuinely don’t, it was just hard for *me* to get it. She grew in certain areas wonderfully, but I wish I’d seen a bit more overall…but maybe that’s the point…maybe that will grow too over time, but we just won’t see it as readers.
Sessah was patient and sweet and everything I expected from him, and he truly did the best he could to prove to Sam that he would be there. He was a perfect part of the story.
While their romance went a bit fast, I do get that resonance (among other things) speeds things along, so I’ll chalk it up to “suspend your disbelief”. I loved the way it progressed though, slowly but surely, making sure Sam was comfortable along the way. And that she did everything she could to make sure Sessah knew she was attracted to him, etc.
I was thrown by the other plot element to this story, and I have so many worries and questions about it. Needless to say, I was not happy with how that played out.
The color for the title makes me think this is a Christmas book. Your review disabuses me of that notion.
ROFL! It does look like a Christmas book!
