My rating:
Blurb:Londyn McCormack didn’t have a typical childhood. She ran away at sixteen and spent her youth searching for a place to call home. She’s built a good life for herself through hard work and a little luck, but after a devastating divorce, she’s running away again. This time, she’s not looking for shelter or a job. She’s out to find the carefree and happy woman she once was.
She’s driving across the country in her convertible, except one flat tire derails her plans and her life collides with Brooks Cohen. The small-town mechanic catches her off guard. Rugged and handsome, Brooks proves to Londyn that kind, honest men do exist.
But she was never meant to stay in West Virginia. Her car is fixed and her trip mapped. And as Brooks fades from her rearview mirror, she must make a choice. Turn back and risk her heart. Or stay on the runaway road.
3.5 stars — This was a solid romance, I just felt like it was missing something to really push it over the top. I can’t quite pinpoint what, but I just wanted *more*. Everything felt just a bit easy and rote in the story.
Londyn was a solid heroine. She has a really interesting backstory, and we meet her on the verge of making a big life change. But…I don’t know. I just didn’t connect with her as much as some of Ms. Perry’s other heroines. I liked her, but I wasn’t wowed by her or anything. Even her big growth moment didn’t pull much emotion from me.
Brooks was a solid hero as well — I enjoyed how easygoing he could be, how kind and just *good*. I think I fell for him a bit more than for Londyn, but still nothing super wow. I felt like I didn’t quite understand how long it took him to tell her about Wyatt, but maybe that’s just me.
I think the romance was the part that has me rounding up. It was just very satisfying. I loved their chemistry, and they just felt so right together.
Some of the plot points were a bit forced to me. The ending left me a bit…I don’t know, incredulous? Like, I got it, but it seemed a bit over the top.
So yeah. A solid romance, I just have enjoyed others by this author more.
There is a lot to be said for a satisfying romance!
True dat!
This series was fun, but it didn’t hit as hard or as emotionally as some of her other books. They were still good reads. Glad you enjoyed it for the most part.
The series has definitely been up and down for me so far! Less consistent than the other 2 I have read…but still fun in general.
That’s how I felt.
