My rating:
Blurb:Talia Eden loved Foster Madden for one year, two months and eleven days. It was on day 438 that her love died. The day he chose to marry her best friend. The day she vowed never to think of Foster again.
Until years later when he has the audacity to show up in her small hometown of Quincy, begging for her help.
The ink on his divorce papers is barely dry, yet he comes armed with apologies and promises. She knows it’s all a ploy. Foster is the king of games and secrets. But he’s got delusions the size of Montana if he thinks she’ll help him train for a world championship fight.
Except Talia has forgotten exactly what made Foster famous. The man has dedicated his life to victory. He’s steadfast. He’s determined. And he won’t stop fighting until he’s won her heart.
3.5 stars — I will admit, I read some friends reviews for this book and went in prepared to be annoyed and frustrated, and so I think I was better able to just gloss over the cliché plot aspects, and bad decisions by some characters because I was expecting them. It’s weird how that works sometimes isn’t it? It definitely wasn’t a perfect book, but I still gobbled it right up and came out fairly satisfied.
I do wish I better understood why Talia had such a guard around her heart — why she is the way she is. Because she had to have had a bit of it already for her not to share as much with her family, especially her twin. But I guess it’s just the way she is. I understood her heartache and distrust, and while her turnaround was a bit fast for a real life situation, I accepted it in fictional form. I felt like she got a little shortchanged in the personal growth department though, there was this set up with how she was treated at the hospital, and it kind of all got resolved off page…bit of a bummer because I was looking forward to it for her.
Then there’s Foster. *sigh* That boy made some huge mistakes, but I decided to just accept the neatly wrapped up bow of excuses the author gave him, and let it be. He definitely pushed too hard and too fast at the beginning, but I get that he had a hard time looking at things from Talia’s perspective.
And despite the easy forgiveness, I did like the two of them together. There was an easiness there, a connection you could feel.
There were some twists and surprises in the story that I hadn’t quite expected (though I knew to expect something), and they played out okay. I wasn’t super excited with the big conflict, but it turned out fine. *shrugs*
The family was still pretty fun, and I’m looking forward to the next book for sure!
My review might have been one of those… I will be interested in hearing what you think of the next one.
Yours was one of them, though not the only one. Now I’m curious about your review for Jasper!
Maybe wait until after you’ve read it.
